The big news for this week so far is that I have a job interview now - on Monday 30 January, giving me just over a week to prepare; I’m excited - this could be a really good promotion for me!
I also spent yesterday morning doing interviews for schoolkids to help them practise for a real-life situation; unfortunately, that day of all day my train broke down - Murphy’s law, I guess.
It was delayed to start with, and the driver was struggling to close the doors, but he got on the way and promptly announced that the train was terminating at the next stop, and there were already a lot of people waiting to get on the train. I ended up on a crowded rail carriage, which went very slowly, and of course contained passengers who would normally have got separate trains. Then, some woman got on with a backpack and systematically backed into me with it - I wanted to shout: “TAKE THE BACKPACK OFF!”
The interviews went well, with varying performances; some kids were very nervous; one was good at speaking and had great knowledge, but he kept putting his hands over his face, which I’ve always been told not to do because people can’t hear you properly. One of them actually gave a very firm handshake, which most of them weren’t able to do (they were only 15 and 16 years old, though so it’s not really surprising).
I went along to Midweek at church yesterday, which I enjoyed - it was prayer night again, as it often seems to be when I show up.
