Let's hope it's good - but still no conclusion to Series VIII? My only theory as to what happened is:
Captain Hollister's spiritual advisor was the shapeshifting organism that killed Red Dwarf, and based on an assumption that in the mirror universe, she was also that same organism (meaning they're doomed), when Rimmer kissed "her", he got some of the DNA on his lips.
But in the normal universe, this would be the antidote to what was destroying Red Dwarf, so Rimmer somehow worked it out and snogged some of the fungus and stuff, saving Red Dwarf - then somehow he got the others back from the mirror universe.
Rimmer died - maybe the Grim Reaper came back for revenge - and was bought back as a hologram - then the events of "Series XI" as talked of in Back to Earth happened.
