first impression:
Typical. He's a good looking guy, but no more or less than many of the others on campus, and he doesn't necessarily go out of his way to make a good first impression, nor is he easily impressed by one. The way he behaves and interacts often depends on the person he's meeting. If they seem like they can carry on a decent conversation, he'll strike one up to get a feel for them. If they seem like they'll be lacking, he doesn't make much effort. However, because he is an aspiring performer/actor, he is able to play out a role well if it's expected or needed. In other words, he can be charming if he wants to be or he can be cold if it makes a situation easier to deal with. He won't fool everyone, but he likes the practice.

Gavin's fairly friendly, but not overtly so. He finds people and their behaviors to be interesting, but he doesn't try to figure them out necessarily. He catalogs them, partially because he's interested in the arts (acting, dancing, performing), and he likes noticing small habits and features and ticks, and partially just because he finds they help make up a person. In general, he takes people to be either who they say they are or what their actions say they are. He doesn't always buy into the idea of being a different person 'deep down' because what a person does and says ultimately accounts for more of who they are than who someone wants to be 'deep inside'. He likes to debate, and he's not particularly wounded if someone doesn't agree with him, but for the most part he doesn't involve himself in confrontation if he can avoid it. His mind can be changed, and his opinions about things aren't altogether solid, but he's a decently smart guy. He considers himself to be mellow and casual, and he doesn't have any problems with being in the middle-of-the-road, so to speak.
