Rather than focus on the message..

(that picking on kids WILL cause the random one to go postal STS), let's ignore it and endorse the status quo. Popular kids, rich kids can pick on whoever they want, the other 90% of the school is there for their pleasure. Any conflict with these sainted ones, blessed by fortune with looks, social skills, money, or athletic ability - and the school sides with them regardless.

Oh, and let's all act surprised again when it happens next time, OK? That way we don't hafta change anything, the media can bury us in irrelevancies again, and we can ignore the not-war that loses more than that many in an afternoon.

Hmmmm...similar age, just not monied enough to attend college - are we mourning them because they are more the ideal/idealized kids we wish we had or were, whereas the grunts dying for the idiot usurping the nation's government aren't as worthy because they didn't have money or smarts and took the best choice they had...?

How can anyone not loathe the apathy of this country? We let mass media jerk our little tears from their ducts, allow ourselves to be distracted from good responsible governance by the likes of American Idol and Amazing Race and Survivor, and hold pretty and rich to be ideals when we don't even *like* most people we know blessed by either of those qualities? When Paris Hilton is even known by anyone outside of Manhattan, this culture's pretty f**ked up.
