30 Days of Buffy Challenge, Day 29: Favourite Season Opener
Maybe not a typical choice for favourite season opener, but I don't think there's a great choice to begin with really; anyway, I will always go for Episode 3x01: Anne.
Like with many season openers in Buffy, the main plot is complete filler rather than being a continuity one that you have to pay too much attention to. So, Buffy has run away to LA following the end of Season 2, leading to a grittier episode than usual, and revisiting the character Anne Steele (formerly Chantelle), who later appeared in some Angel episodes (should have been in more).
The main plot involves a bunch of morlock-type demons who are enslaving the humans in another dimension that's sort of underneath LA, until Buffy gets involved. It was a plot I really enjoyed, and set up Season 3's darker tone compared to what had gone before.
There's also some good comic relief as the Scoobies fill in for Buffy killing vampires back in Sunnydale.
