Agatha Raisin and a Spoonful of Poison by
M.C. Beaton My rating:
4 of 5 stars A similar premise to the first Agatha Raisin Novel, "The Quiche of Death" in this title. Agatha is judging at a jam competition, but someone spikes one of the entries with LSD, which results in the bizarre death of one of the judges.
To add to the complication, George, the dead woman's husband lost his previous wife under suspicious circumstances, so Agatha has two mysteries to deal with while trying to figure out who did the deed.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this book, once it had stopped going into tangents about Agatha's attempts to get into a relationship with George, despite him possibly being a murderer.
There was some good character development, mostly through a sub-plot involving Toni, who is working for Agatha's detective agency (some of it involving her relationship with Harry, and ex-colleague). The main plot also had some decent plot twists, and I was left guessing for a while who the killer would turn out to be, although the climactic moment once again felt rushed. There was also a nice setting-up for the next book in the series, "There Goes the Bride".
