Great view of what was then the Olympics stadium (now West Ham's ground) from a friend's flat, where we were watching the opening ceremony.
Getting into his flat was a farce - a bit of confusion arose when I called him on the intercom. As he hung up, I didn't realise he'd buzzed me in, and I spotted two men appear out of a flat, and mistook them for friends of mine.
I thought they'd come to let me in, and show me how to get to the flat, so when they just stared at me, while I wondered why they weren't opening the door, I got confused. When they turned and disappeared, I thought my mate had sent them out there as some sort of joke (seems I was used to being the butt of slightly mean jokes back then). I even tried calling my friend, who didn't hear his phone.
The other guys showed up and asked what I wanted, then I realised they were complete strangers - nothing to do with the party, and when I mentioned my friend, they had no idea who I was on about. Eventually a group of other friends showed up, and we got in, and finally found the guy's flat.
