The Friday Five: All of Us In the City's Light

From thefridayfive

1. What is your work/school commute like?

Usually the same, if going into the office, although I take two different routes to the station in the morning.

Go into the paper shop; there's one guy who I usually chat to if he's on the counter, then wait for my train, often doing Wordle on the way.

I normally get a seat on the train, and then there's just the challenge of walking to the office while swerving around people coming from the other direction.

A mixture of enjoyable and just annoying really.

2. What did you want to be when you grew up? Has it changed?

When I was quite young: A policeman.

I decided I wanted to go into town planning quite early, following in my father's footsteps, and I'm doing roughly similar to what I'd hoped to do.

3. What is your weirdest work/school/project related story?

Ummm - now you got me. After staring into middle-distance for some time, I couldn't think of much at all that was "weird".

Okay, how about this; I became convinced that the plantation area at my school was haunted once; I was standing by it once and I saw lots of boys in school uniform appear from the undergrowth.

I knew it was a popular spot for kids sneaking a cigarette, and I got the idea into my head that they'd all think I was there to snitch on them.

So, I moved away to somewhere that looked less obvious; I swear I looked away for just a second or two.

When I looked back, the boys I saw were all gone; they had just a tiny opening to run through to get away, and there wasn't really time to do this.

So, I'm going with ... ghosts.

4. What is something you're closely familiar with that media always gets wrong?

I don't think there's anything really; well, John Oliver thought Animal Farm was about fascism last week. Other than that, nowt.

5. Describe the stuff on your desk/workspace.

In the office: We have a clear desk policy, but sometimes whatever someone left in the office that they shouldn't have.

At home: Just whatever clutter, usually papers, I left on my desk, with my printer next to me.

Other than that: My laptop and monitor set up.
