I thought about going for nursing, too, but then realized that I don't want that kind of responsibility--nor do I want to work weekends, holidays, and odd-hour shifts! It's bad enough I do that now as a HUC.

Get your feet wet--go for your CNA(certified nursing assistant) and try that out for size. The class itself is short and most technical colleges offer it. Just a suggestion so you can see what it's really like.

Because of my MS, I can't endure the physicalness of an NA's job. Plus they make bupkiss for money. My mom, aunt, and two cousins are RN's - and another cousin is an LPN - so I basically know what I'd be getting myself in to. The major debate at this point in time is figuring out how the heck we'd be able to afford for me to go back to school.

And, put it this way, my cousin Dawn just graduated with her 2-year RN in May and got hired at St. Mary's in Duluth as a graduate nurse. She's making $27.40/hour and she hasn't even taken the state boards yet! I've worked holidays, weekends and odd-hour shifts my entire employment life. At least if I was nursing, the $$ would kind of make up for lack of social life. Plus, I'm thinking of getting my LPN and being a clinic nurse - not as much responsibility and better schedules. ;)

Well okay, you do know what you're getting yourself into then ;) I wanted to be a nurse for so long, but then realized that I was more into what was actually finding out what was wrong with the patient versus being a caretaker, more the diagnostic route of it. Does that make sense ( ... )

And see, I never went through getting my nursing degree before this because living on the Iron Range, the only place to work as a nurse is long-term care and I do NOT want to work long-term care. *cringes* But now that I'm in the metro area and looking in the Star Trib on Sundays and seeing all these other opportunities (OB and nursery! Sports injury!) ... and then hearing what my cousin is making per hour ... just makes me go "hmmmm... might not be a bad idea ( ... )
