[he doesn't respond immediately and once he does, he still doesn't turn around]

...Is that you or your double, Turlough? [oh yes, he's been listening, even if he couldn't respond at the time]

I'm afraid I've lost my double, Doctor. An altogether too brief an escape attempt.

We'd managed to overload the forcefield with my counterpart's Black Guardian's crystal. I certainly got satisfaction from inverting their sick little joke. We were this close to find Oliver when, well, we got surrounded. We surrendered and I haven't seen him or the crystal since.

I see you've been in that arena of theirs.

[he smiles faintly, impressed by that]

Well, maybe it's for the best. One of you is enough for me as it is. [slowly, he turns around, resting tenderly back against the jail wall, and thankfully, the same sort of injuries are not quite as bad on the front]

And it's good to see your powers of observation are as sharp as ever, Turlough.

[chuckles] One of me here is enough. [and after the conversation he had with Oliver's double, he's really glad he hasn't had to face himself]

[He nods.] There's no danger of infection, is there? [It's almost a cursory inquiry, he knows how resilient Time Lords are, but they are in a different universe, after all.]

No, everything is healing up well. [a beat, glancing at his hand] Surprisingly well, in fact.

[blacks_lackey]

Really? Well, they don't want us killed, I'm certain of that.

Oh, I'd agree there. [runs his hand gently through his hair] It's actually quite disappointing as far as prisons go. I've been in worse.

[blacks_lackey]

Doctor, Doctor? Where prisons concerned, the better they are, the better it is for their prisoners, in this instance, us.

[a casual shrug, resting his head back against the wall] When you've been in as many as I have, you tend to notice things. I'd give this one a four out of ten, maybe five because of the creatures in the arena.

Yes, you'll pardon me if I prefer the numbers to be low.

Oh yes, of course. [smiles faintly] Don't worry though, I'll think of a way out. [hisses, pressing a hand to his side] Once my ribs have healed.

Somehow I doubt that you'll wait that long.
