I bought Season 2 of SGA on DVD and have been watching it. I must say I'm a little disappointed. I had hoped that John and Rodney would seem more slashy in the source material.
It doesn't matter to me because I don't need canon justification to read a pairing, at all. The fanon has formed my notion that John and Rodney would be good together. Plus all the great fic is reason enough to read the pairing.
I think I was disappointed mostly because when I finally actually watched Due South after having read in the fandom for several years, I was blown away by how slashy the actually show is. It outstripped any expectation I might have had.
With SGA it's different. Watching the show has whetted my appetite for reading other pairing in additional to McShep. I was surprised to find how much latent chemistry there was between John and other characters and Rodney and other characters. Like I can see Rodney/Radek, John/Ford, John/Elizabeth, Rodney/Beckett, Ronon/Teyla. Really Ronon and anyone because he's so cool and laconic and good looking. John and Rodney seemed more probable in Season 1. It hasn't shaken my love of the pairing at all but I was surprised.
