Madison & the Dells

In March, I had plans to go up to the Wisconsin Dells and see my friend Tommy. He has 8 snowmobiles, and what they do up there is ride them to the bars, drink a few beers, ride to the next bar, repeat. Sounds like a good time, but of course it was 70 degrees while I was there. It is snowing there today of course!

We did see the Madison St. Patick's Day parade on Capitol Square. There were no marching bands, though, which was too bad b/c I LOOOOVE the drum line of the UW marching band. We also watched the Who musical Tommy, which somehow I had never seen. I gotta tell ya, the 'Fiddlin' Around' scene with Keith Moon was straight up ROUGH to watch. I wonder if unabused people think so too?

Tommy has the most interesting cats I've ever met. They live outside, and they kill birds and eat them, INCLUDING the feathers, but they are not feral. Tommy bought them a bag of dog food because it was cheaper, and they ate it. And he can be gone for weeks at a time, and they can fend for themselves, even for water. Also, the female, Antoinette, is one of the most beautiful animals I've ever seen.

On St. Patrick's Day, Tommy and I had dinner at Kahunaville and then did the pub crawl in the Dells. I forget the first bar, but the 2nd one was the Showboat, and the third one was Nig's, as in Swig at Nig's. WTF? There were 2 more bars but I lost track.

When we got home, we were having a smoke before bed and I got to thinking about Tommy's woodburning stove. I said, "You know, last year's Valentine cards from Kevin (one with a long and soulful letter in it) have been living in my purse. Do you think I should burn them?" The ?uestion was basically rhetorical.

But woah, Tommy turned into a pumpkin. "Look," he screamed suddenly, "If you want to fall in love with Kevin tonight, you go right ahead!" I don't recall the rest of what he said, I was so shocked. Isn't it surprising when people are irrational.

W/e, I went back to Madison, stopping in Eken Park for some pad thai. Dang, has that neighborhood deteriorated. It was really sad to be back there. Taste of Asia was full of migrant workers...I assume that means bad conditions. Then I went back to the Hilton and had drinks with some cool people at Wando's and the Red Shed. Got to shop at the UW bookstore too, which I don't get to do enough. I also had plans to have lunch with Tracy, but she works in Fitchburg, so there wasn't enough time. I hadn't realized Fitchburg was so far. Then again, the last time I was there, I was at Alt 'n Bach's getting hammered =)
