Second, of ALL americans reagan is the most influential?
Surely you joke. And the poll is over the greatest Americans, not the most influential. Under that logic we should add Warren Buffet, Alan Greenspan, and Bill Frist. ANd for that matter whoever is the president of the USA is automatically one of the 'greatest' americans at that given time.
And among the GREATEST Americans Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Malcolm X, Harry S. Truman, FDR. And nowhere on this list are the great authors of whose works the entire World reads for inspiration and understanding of American culture. Steinbeck, Hemingway, Thoreau, Pearl Buck, Mark Twain, these are the likes of which whose actions will echo far beyond Reagan will ever will.
Oprah herself would probably take herself off that list in place of Susan B. Anthony, and if you are to allow her to be a highly influential american then so you shoudl undoubtedly allow Homer and Bart Simpson.
If you would liek to make excuses for the disgust that is results of this poll go right ahead. The fear of the middle aged during nuclear war ? Then perhaps you'd explain why kennedy isn't on there...
Maybe still could you instead entertain the idea that the conservative right's influence combined with nostalgic voting 40-50 somethings and the recent time of his passing have more to do with it then actual merit.
Reagan being hte most influential? Please. This poll's only use is to show the naievity of the pollee. THANK GOD AT LEAST ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND MLK MADE THE LIST.
