Just a fast story...
My co-worker that I sit across from at Motorola, Patty, recently broke up with her long-term boyfriend. He is currently living in Colombia and they had made arrangements for him to move to the United States in October to live with her and eventually get married. Patty was completely heartbroken at the news that they broke up and while I didn't want to pry for details, she did tell me that it didn't look good as far as getting back together. The back story here is that Patty is one of the most bubbly, outgoing, energetic and happy people I've met in my whole life, so to see her so depressed and sad made my heart break. I decided last night to do something special for Patty in hopes of cheering her up, so my mom showed me some "prayer bracelets" that she had bought from QVC and was going to give me to give to friends as gifts. It's basically a beaded bracelet with pearls and swarovski crystals (one was clear, one was blue, one was black) and a little prayer box charm with praying hands on the side. You can open the box and insert a prayer (albeit it would have to be very small!). Anyhow, I gave the bracelet to her this morning and told her to insert a prayer in there that she would find love again. She was so happy that she started to cry and was hugging me and thanking me and wearing the bracelet all morning.
Here is where the amazing stuff happened. For my lunch break I went to the Broward Mall, grabbed a bite to eat and bought a purse with my Macy's gift certificate from my birthday. On my way out, I asked the saleswoman if there was a nearby coffee place and she said there was a Barnie's not too far from Macy's. I started walking toward Barnie's when I ran into Gloria Jean's which I like even better. When I walked inside there was a man standing there looking over the menu and after he ordered his drink, he turned to me and said, "I'm going to buy your drink today." Completely out of the blue! I said, no thanks, I appreciate it, but I can pay for myself...but he insisted! At first I thought maybe he was buying my coffee and trying to buy "more" from me but then he said to me, "I'm a man of G-d and every time I do a good deed it comes back to me threefold. A little thing like buying your coffee today will come back to me in the future in greater terms."
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I was receiving "thanks" for cheering Patty up and doing her a good service from my heart. These good deeds were forming a circle and by me helping Patty, I was helped by this man and later on, he thinks someone will help him. Creepy but inspirational, eh?
We should all strive to do more good deeds for the ones we love and the world would be a better place!
