South America

The trip to South America was truly outstanding, one of the best ever. Buenos Aires was particularily incredible in terms of the cities I visited. I expected more from Montevideo, Uruguay. While I loved Montevideo, it was a bit tragic due to the run down nature of the buildings, etc. Traveling through the lake district in Patagonia, Argentina ( Read more... )

I've been reading your journal a little here and there. You sound like you live a really wonderfully interesting life just full of so many exciting things. What is it that you do that your work lets you travel to so many great places?

I work for a firm in the Washington, DC area as a conference planner and association manager. It does allow for just the right amount of travel. Unfortunately the client that I had that was based in Europe is no longer with us so currently I don't travel to that portion of the world for work. Much of the travel I do is personal such as the trip to South America. It has been a dream of mine for some time to travel to the Southern Cone of South America (specifically Argentina, Uruguay and Chile). I had lived in Brazil for six months many years ago so it was not important that I see it again during this last trip although I do love Brazil.

I was lucky enough to grow up with my family travelling around the world but as a grown up I haven't had a lot of opportunity to travel. I did get to finally take a vacation to mexico a couple of years ago. I loved it. I would love to be able to travel more. Do you ever travel to Canada?

It's funny you ask that. I have been wanting to go to Canada for years. I have not yet found the opportunity. Where exactly is the part of Canada you live in. You mention it is a pretty attractive place to visit. Such a big country with so much to see, I don't know where I would begin, East or West.

I live in Penticton British Columbia. It's a city in the middle of 2 lakes on either end of it in the middle of the Okanagan Valley. It's mostly wine country here. Vineyards everywhere and wineries. Winter time here is snowboarding and skiing. We have a few ski resorts here up the valley. The summers here are hot and long, needless to say the beaches here are loaded with people everywhere.

I looked it up on the internet and it sounds and looks beautiful. As you may know, I am an avid snow skiier and that is one reason why I have been tempted to travel to Canada. I know you have mentioned some of the disadvantages of living where you do but it does seem very appealing as a place to visit.

It's a beautiful place to live even year round. The biggest challenge for me is actually meeting someone that I would like to be with. There is a gay community here but they are either really young or close to retirement. Great people just the same. I love to ski although I haven't had anyone to enjoy it with in a few years now. It's not the best place to live if your single but if you have a partner it can be the best place on earth. If it wasn't for all the great friends I have here I would probably look to move but in my heart I love it here. I just miss all the wonderful adventures you can have when you have someone to enjoy them with.

I completely understand that. I was in a four year relationship and I just ended it 7 months ago. It was a very difficult thing for me to do but from the bottom of my heart I knew it wasn't right and I had to let go. I dreaded being single and now that I am I see why I dreaded it. I am not getting any younger myself and it can be very lonely. Washington, DC is an extremely difficult place to meet gay guys who are decent. Everyone here is so into themselves and they all think they are so important being that they live in the nation's capitol. I went to a bar I like the last weekend with some friends and as I looked around I thought to myself what am I doing here? They were all so young. I used to prefer dating guys younger than me but I am at an age now, 39, where I feel that twenty something year olds are just way too young for me to be interested in. I am hoping that with this new year I will find a wonderful guy. How, I don't know. I have my profile listed on several sites such as planet out and I have had success with ( ... )
