About as much fun as I can take

In one way, May Day is sort of like Christmas -- it's a lot of fun, but not the sort of fun I'd want to have much more than once a year.

Of course, I may just feel that way because this May Day was especially exhausting. Because it was on a Saturday, it was the same day as Somerville Open Studios, which is sort of a city-wide art fair in Somerville. So I got up at 4:10, picked flowers with my daughter, headed in to the city with a friend of hers and my husband, spent three and a half hours dancing, singing*, and standing around watching dancing, had breakfast, and then spent another five and a half hours walking around town looking at art and talking to artists (some friends and some strangers). So yes, great fun, and uplifting in many ways, but I am now exhausted, and a little sunburned.

On the way home, we met friends at a restaurant, and after we had started our meal the staff came and took our water away, because they had just received word from the state that it was potentially unsafe (after I'd drunk at least half a pint).

Fortunately, the boil order does not apply this far out of Boston, so I could at least rehydrate without delay when I got home. Also, the water I drank was probably fine.

(*We didn't sing Jack in the Green this year. It was odd.)
