I think I fell in love with Sam and Daniel -- as a pair you really don't want to turn loose on their own -- in Cold Lazarus, when the two of them 'borrow' Teal'c's staff weapon to shoot at the crystal in the gate room, setting off every alarm, and Teal'c asks if they got permission to fire it, and they're both 'oh, of course' and you just know they're both lying their asses off about that.

That's when I knew these two are used to being the 'good kids' who get away with murder, with the big blue eyes and the oh, but I'm so innocent acts, but they've got the good grades, so people find it hard to think of them as being the real trouble-makers. But they are. And I just adore that they back each other up on that--and lie about it--and both thought this was a good idea in the first place.

And I wanted to try and take what Abyssinia4077 had done and kind of deconstruct the friendship, because so often what we build becomes better when we strip it back down to what's really at the heart of it. And for me, what works with these two is that they come at each other as total equals--neither gives the other any quarter. I think that's why so many folks think of them as having a sibling-like relationship--it's that type of commitment to each other, that no matter what, this tie doesn't get broken, so you can give it the level of honesty usually reserved for bloodkin, who can't walk out on you.

So, yeah, aren't they the best.
