Dear Kevin,
I just wanted to take the time to thank you for allowing us to honor you, Ronnie and Ulf on Friday evening. I hope it was a special moment in your career... I know for myself, and many others, it was a special moment for us, as well. It allowed us to have one more night like the old days, that so many of us still long for.
Despite having been back to the HCC many times in the last nine years, there has not been a night that evoked as much emotion as Friday did. As celebratory as the occassion was, I found myself having to fight back the tears at times. It was a night of bittersweet memories...
It was amazing to see you, Ronnie, and Ulf in Whalers jerseys again. I was just a young kid in the mid-80s, and am sorry that I never truly got to experience some of the greatest days in Whaler history.
It was amazing to run into some old friends at the HCC Friday night...some who I haven't seen or spoken to in years. It's funny to think that a lot of people I knew remembered me as a 16 year old high school kid... Now I'm nearly 25, out of college, at the beginning of what looks like to be a promising career at an investment firm. My, how time flies. I can't believe next year will be 10 years. 10 years. And I still love the team as much as I did back then. Getting caught up talking about the old days and all the memories we have... It makes it seem like it was just yesterday.
It was amazing to hear the "Let's Go Whalers!" chants again, and, of course, "Brass Bonanza".
It was amazing to see #5, #10, and #11 being raised to the rafters - where they belong.
It's difficult to put together the words to convey what a special night it was... I just know that I am glad I was able to be there and be a part of it.
I wish you continued success in the future...though your coaching career is already off to a nice start!
All the best to you and your family.
