I haven't been around much lately, online or otherwise. I've been busy with work mostly, and trying to recuperate from my 2 weeks of hell

I've read enough forums to know that there is a lot of heat on both sides of this, but the bottom line is that the actress chose to leave the show - she wasn't fired or let go by TPTB. She didn't like the way they were portraying Weir, or something like that. And Weir's not dead, either, so there's still potential that she can come back. And, apparently the main reason that Carter was moved to Atlantis is because they needed to find a way to fulfill Amanda Tappings contract, which had just been signed shortly before they axed SG-1, so it's not as if she was behind this decision.
While I liked Weir, I'm going to find it interesting and fun to watch Carter struggle to find her place in the Pegasus galaxy (which is also something that Amanda Tapping mentioned as being a fun thing for her as she moves to the show). Carter's out of her element now, and will have to learn to be a part of another team's dynamic. She's no longer the go-to person, but is now the person who has to sit back and let the go-to person/people work.
But yeah, depending on if the show goes another season and all that, we just might see Weir again, since we never saw her die.
