This fic has been recced in other places before, but I think it's worth another rec or ten.
It's one of my all time favourite AUs, and the images the author painted are so vivid, they stayed with me long after I finished reading the fic. It ended beautifully, and I would love to see more from this universe, but where it stopped is okay too. A little dark, but perfect to my tastes.
