This morning I woke up late. That in itself wasn't unpleasant, as the extra sleep was much appreciated. However, it did necessitate a hurried attempt to locate clothing and rush out of the house. This did not go as well as it could have, however, as I very soon discovered (but not before I'd actually donned the garment) that one of my cats (I'd bet it was Hunter) had peed on my pants sometime in the night. Icky. A little further investigation found that he'd managed to spoil both my pairs of black pants (office/work clothes) and the shirt I'd intended to wear today. As I stared incredulously at the small heap of stinking fabric, my husband sensibly came to my rescue by suggesting I wear a skirt, instead. I set about locating a pair of tights. One set was quickly found, but halfway into them I discovered a run. Rolling my eyes in exasperation, I tromped downstairs to find my other set, which I knew to have been put through the wash recently. I found them in the dryer, easily enough, though to my surprise they were still somewhat damp, as were the rest of the clothes in there. Attempting to recall exactly when they'd been put through the dryer, and how long that would mean they'd been resting, damp, in the appliance, I ventured a sniff. Whooo! Startlingly musty! A little further pawing through the tangled garments there found full-fledged fluffy mold growing on one of the pairs of jeans (ew, gross!) and I knew I couldn't wear those tights, either. The only logical course of action was to call the office and explain that I simply couldn't come in to work this morning, and then set about laundering all my clothes twice.
Ergo, that is what I'm doing now. My husband has gone to work, and I am waiting for the first wash cycle of my load to finish so I can start it over again. I'm trying to decide if I want to put in more soap, or if I should just wash it the second time with no added detergent. (I have noticed that this particular detergent is especially fragrant, even after rinsing and drying.) I guess it depends on whether the clothing carries any lingering scent of unpleasantness when they've been drained.
I think I'll go listen to some more of my most recent audiobook,
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (Listen to a clip of it
here), and hope that it leavens my mood.
