Tropical Storm Fay

Aug 15, 2008 17:26

It figures...just in time for the first day of school. ;)

And the thing that I'm looking at is the size of this storm - even parts of the Bahamas are in a watch. I'm hoping it stays a tropical storm like this update shows, but as with any storm, we'll just have to keep an eye on it.

NHC

Good thing I have plenty of beer and mojitos left over. ;)

weather, tropical storm/hurricane

It's rather useless here...we don't really use it. We can't - too much coral rock. We use a pick axe to dig our holes.

I know! I'm hoping that it just blows more west or just dies before it hits the States.
Still means more rain. Dagnabbit!

We had a tornado hit here in Dade yesterday. My hubby called me and told me that where he works was in a tornado warning (it hit in Hialeah). We had some more bad weather last night.

Well, it's Florida and this is what we deal with. Our emergency committee are already meeting and Sunday we should know whether or not school is canceled. I'm still taking my daughter to her orientation tomorrow.

The only thing we think we may have to do is to take the canopy off our gazebo.

The projections don't look too dire (she says hopefully)....

That's why we're taking a wait and see attitude (as we do with all storms, but it still doesn't hurt to be prepared).

Two days ago, all the tracks took this storm east of Florida. What a difference two days make.

My son is actually upset that his first day might be postponed. He wants to go to school so bad. I'm not really sure if this is my son. ;)

Tampa is in the path of some projections, so we're in the same boat. I can't find any updates at my university website or my daughter's school district site, though. They've messed up the bus notifications here, so the announcements on her school district site are all about buses!

Small Child is also concerned that her first days could be postponed or canceled, but this is normal for he.

As is usual, the track keeps changing. We won't know about school closings until tomorrow. Even if the center of the storm hits around the Lower Keys, we're still going to be on the dirty side.

Daughter had her orientation this morning for the magnet program. We were able to find the class she needs to report to in the morning and she's excited about going to school. She saw a couple of friends this morning and I think that has eased her fears.

One of the initial projected paths for this storm (while it was still a depression) had it coming in right down our throats (hitting Orange Beach, AL and coming right on up) so I'm hoping it doesn't get stronger once it hit's the Gulf. We've pretty much decided unless something gets to a 3 or above, we're staying put.

I'm hoping it falls apart.

Sometimes the Great Lakes can really be a factor in exaggerating what people would consider normal weather. Of course, I'm used to the extremes we get from the effect. But that still doesn't change my opinion that people who voluntarily live in the path of a constant barrage of tropical storms and hurricanes are just absolutely crazy! Yeah, double standard and all that. I'm sure you know what you're doing. I think I'd freak out. Batten down those hatches and hope it glides by smoothly!

Hehehe...

Actually, we get more threats then actual hits. Although, with the climate changing that could change.

As of the 5am update, it looks like the storm will travel west of me and I think we'll be on the dry side. It looks like aelfgyfu_mead may get more than I will.

We're going to keep an eye on it. We've already got most of our supplies so we're good.
