Yes, the doctor's appointment yesterday did not go as planned.  Baby is completely out of the birth canal and back up around my ribs.  His butt, specifically,  is planted in my ribs and his head is around my belly button ( Read more... )

I'm praying for you Caroline. Try not to worry too much about where your baby is, you have several more weeks and that is a long time for a baby that is gaining so much weight at this time. Even if your baby is turned, there are ways to get him turned back around. I don't know if your doc does this, but midwives and some nurses do.

Just a warning. I know you are concerned about C-sections and you should be, its now 30% or more of all births are done via c-section. This is nuts. And you want to know why a lot are done this way? It's not because they are all "medically necessary" like having the cord wrapped around the neck or something, its because medically controlled births (i.e. induction and epidurals) can actually slow down or stop labour completely, and actually cause the baby's heartrate to decrease, calling for a "medically necessary" c-section. However, it wouldn't have been necessary if all the meds were given to try and control labour to fit a set pattern.

I'm sure you've read a lot about it but I wanted to warn you. All of my friends and family (with the exception of ONE family member with a real medical need for c-section) had a c-section because the epidural/pitocin combo either stopped labour or sent the baby's heartrate plummeting. All of these ladies were healthy, one was very athletic, and all were upset that they were coerced into a c-section. If you can handle watching it at this time, see "The Business of Being Born".

PS. I have known ladies to have up to five c-sections, and a few that have had v-bacs. And docs sometimes use vacuum extractors, etc with "normal" vaginal births too.
