It's been a rough few days here in casa
gate_ship . Some of you may know, and some of you may not know that we have three cats; Arthur, Luke, and Leia. (We didn't name the last two, they came that way but it's awesome) Arthur has allergies with sneezing and watery eyes. And since cats can't breathe through their mouths it's dangerous. Usually he's not that bad but recently he's been really bad.
My parents took him to the vet Friday I guess and they got him some medicine. Only problem was the side effects for the meds were nausea and sleepiness. Now, he's a lazy sleepy cat to start with but he's also a glutton. He eats all of the food and then throws it up later because he either ate too much or ate too fast. He's basically a bulimic 20+ pound cat.
But all Saturday he just slept. He didn't eat, he didn't really move, wouldn't drink. It was scary. Sunday my parents took him off his meds but he still wasn't eating or drinking. We thought he might have lost his sense of smell so food didn't smell like it was food. I thought it was really scary. My brother loves that cat and it's his first year off at college and I was worried that Arthur was going to die because he wouldn't eat or drink or he wouldn't be able to breathe. Liam's only been at college for, what, two months or so now? It would absolutely, positively crush him to lose Arthur like this. And it is a possibility - probability sadly - that Arthur's going to die while my brother's at college. He's an older cat and my brother will be gone for four years.
But when my parents took Arthur off of his meds and he was pretty much the same on Sunday. Monday I was gone at work for 7 hours but when I got home he wasn't really eating. He ate a little bit but not a lot, which was worrisome. He'd been off the medicine for 36 hours or so and wasn't really much different. When I went upstairs to bed at about 11 PM or so he went over to his water bowl and began drinking, which was great.
And just now he was given his lunch (and I know it's like 3PM) and he ate his wet food, Luke's wet food, and then he ate Leia's wet food. Frankly, it's amazing. I have a feeling that he's going to throw up later, but I give up. I just hope he's going to start drinking again.
My parents are thinking of getting better filters for the furnace and a really, really good room air filter/purifier so we can put him in a room with it when he starts sniffling.
I am so, so relieved that he's eating. He's still sneezing a lot but he's eating. And he's not technically on his medicine.
