Character Number: 3
Character: Hong Meiling
Fandom: Touhou Project (same wiki link as below)
Personality:
Meiling is the very model of a well-rounded youkai. This is not just a comment on her combat technique, but also in how she acts in her everyday life. She is incredibly human-like in this regard, having little in the way of arrogance, and being easy to approach. Meiling will chat up anyone who approaches her, provided they are not just trying to sneak by her.
Her primary duty is as the first line of defense against intruders upon Mistress Remilia's domain -- the self-professed "Great Wall" of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. While she is dedicated to this job, it is tireless, and Meiling herself is... not. It projects the false image that Meiling is lazy, just because she has been caught napping at her post one-too-many times. It isn't that she is such a slacker, but rather that the job is not all that engaging. This often matters little to others, and she is often called out on this happening, particularly as she takes this siesta promptly at noon every day.
From there, her other duties include watching over and maintaining the garden of the SDM. It allows her some respite from her post, and she often takes the time to find a nice sunny spot where she can practice her Tai Chi Chuan. Though it does provide her some excitement, as well, such as the incident where someone had drawn crop-circles in the flowers, and it was her job to fix that mistake despite not knowing how it happened.
Meiling is straightforward and blunt, but not callous. It isn't that she wants to harm others with her words, or distance herself from people, but rather that she sees things rather two-dimensionally. If she has an opinion, she'll state it! She is a very poor liar, but she can muster up something if it will help comfort someone, or protect them somehow. Usually she sticks to trying to distract them from the matter at hand, though, or put a positive spin on it. Meiling is ever the optimist, and is slow to concede defeat, both figuratively and literally.
History:
Touhou Wiki (taken from after her storyline ending in - 12.3)
Abilities:
Meiling does not have many abilities that distinguish her from a human, despite her youkai lineage and age, except her skill at manipulating her ki and channel it into her attacks. She is dedicated to her particular style of martial arts, and her techniques are well-rounded which grants her no particular offensive or defensive advantage. Beyond that, she has nowhere near as many danmaku or spell cards as some of the other youkai in the Touhou universe, choosing instead to fight hand-to-hand with the aid of ki attacks whenever possible.
...oh, and she can fly, because just about all youkai in Gensokyo possess the ability. There are no buses in Gensokyo.
The spell cards available to her are as follows:

This is beyond embarrassing. It's one thing to be lost in the woods or to be caught taking a nap at the gate. It's entirely another to have somehow managed to fall asleep and then wake up lost in the woods. "Oh no..." Meiling pouted, looking around. She's never seen this sort of temple in Gensokyo before. "Did I end up in the outside world? Mistress Remilia is going to be so mad when she finds out..."
Stepping away from the building, she stretched her arms out over her head and spun around, looking this way and that. There was a village at the bottom of the hill, with a mansion -- not The mansion, obviously, as it was not nearly the same size and scale -- and what looked to be an inn, and a well and--
"Gosh, where am I? This doesn't look any part of the countryside I've ever seen." Adjusting the green hat on her head, she set off down the hill at a rapid pace. She needed answers, and she assumed the village would be the best place to get them. Maybe whoever is head of this province would know how to point her toward the main road, so she can get back home.
Preferably before someone noticed she was gone.
Sample journal entry:
[ The feed opens up to the view of a pair of wide blue eyes staring at the device verrrry closely. The woman on the other end makes a surprised sound when she realizes she was holding it upside-down. Whoops! ] This is a neat invention. It must be those cell-u-lar devices that I've heard people talk about. Patchouli would definitely know how to work one of these, I think...
...I wonder who's on the other side? Hello~! Can you hear me? [ And here she'll just wait for someone to reply. Someone would reply, right...? ]
