Title: Lost in Time
Genre: Shortfic
Pairing: Kyusung

Silent pleas.
I don't want you to go.

Pleas not spoken, but implied. Through the inclination of his voice, through his sudden drop in tone: trailed, unfinished sentences, laced with uncertainty, longing, and hopeful wishes.

"It's getting late."
It's not even late, though.

Kyuhyun tries to prolong the conversation. Idle chatter long exhausted, random conversational topics serving as an emergency reserve. He knows it's coming, any moment now, but he doesn't want it to come. He wants the hours to roll onto days, days to roll onto eternity. He wants to never have to go, to never need sleep, to not have to say goodbye. And maybe there is a way, a way Kyuhyun had yet to discover, a way to defy time, to fall into a loophole in continuum, to stay here forever, still frame yet alive, with only--

"You there?"

Kyuhyun blinks slowly. "Y-Yeah, sorry, dozed for a second."
And he regrets his choice of words instantly.

"Oh, okay. You tired? I was actually just about to ask you--"

Finally, after dreaded anticipation and unwillingness.

"--if I could go to bed?"

Kyuhyun bites his lip. Secretly he understands; Yesung, too, has a busy schedule the following day, and without adequate sleep he would be nothing but cranky and unsuccessful in the day's endeavors. He has to sleep eventually, as does he. But did that have to be now?

Now would be a good time to get lost in time.

"I-I guess...what would you do if I said no, anyway?"

"I'd... probably still go to bed."

"Exactly." He's not bitter, Kyuhyun swears. Not bitter, not bitter no, but perhaps a little sad. Discontent? Dissatisfied? Perhaps. But it does leave him with a pitted hole in his gut, a hole that reminds him that he lives in an imperfect world, where there is never enough hours in a day, where time only passes when he doesn't want it to, where there is no such thing as having talked to Yesung for too long.

Now would be a good time to get lost in time. With you.

"But I'll still talk to you tomorrow?" Yesung offers, to which Kyuhyun only grunts nonchalantly. Tomorrow. An incomprehensible notion at best. So soon, yet not soon enough. But it is something you can always count on, no matter the day: Tomorrow always comes.

But tomorrow isn't now.

"I guess."

Yesung sighs. "Hey now...don't be like that."

"I'm not. I just... I just...."

Just wish we weren't on a time limit.
Just wish we weren't so dependent on a stupid phone.
Just wish I could be there with you.

"I'll call you when I wake up tomorrow, then," Yesung compromises. "Will you be okay until then?"

"Yeah...I guess...." Kyuhyun gulps. "I just... really miss you."

"Me too. But hey, it's not much longer until you come back to Korea and get to see me again!"

"...yeah...."

Now would be a good time to get lost in time. With you.
But then we would never find our way back to each other.

"Then... goodnight! I love you."

"I-I know..."

A pause.

"I love you too."

It takes a while for Kyuhyun to fall asleep that night. It's nothing new; he always has much to think about, much to miss. He misses being able to sleep properly, with a sufficient number of hours, at a decent hour, with his boyfriend snuggled against his side....

He misses it.

Again, he wishes time had stopped in that past, a perfect moment with time well spent, together. But how else does one move forward if time never passes?

It's the only thing that gets Kyuhyun by: Each tomorrow that passes, though taking him one day away from the last happiest moments of his life, brings him one day towards an even better adventure.

With Yesung.

And then, it doesn't hurt so much.

Thoughts of you are always welcome.
Wishing you were as close in miles as you are in heart.
