vic's gonna play this new crazy record for us!

in the month+ that i've been gone, a lot has happened that i've wanted to write about, but whenver i sit down to do so, it seems to trite. and it's not just blogging that seems so pointless, it's writing of any kind really. my lyric writing has turned more into really bad modern prose, i'm having a hard time tailoring lyrics to the punk songs that i'm doing with the new band (now officially named DEATH DEATH KILL DEATH) and i don't really ever want to commit time to writing more folk songs, simply because i already have so many punk songs to finish off.

after that tangent on writing lyrics, let's talk about sports!

basketball - unlike everyone, i don't really care that the wolves suck. i've never been a big basketball fan, and probably will continue to not be one (although i DID watch a few suns games and i am considering seeing them in minneapolis next season.) basketball reminds me of soccer, but on a much smaller scale. my favorite aspect of soccer is the counter attack, i love watching a team delicately build up an attack over 5 or 6 minutes, then see the ball fly the length of the field in the opposite direction, and have a goal scored in 45 seconds. basketball provides this same opportunity, but on a much smaller scale.

hockey - hockey is pretty much my second favorite winter sport (behind soccer). the gophers really let me down, and the wild were just over matched in the playoffs. i was hoping they'd get to the second round so i could go catch a game, i guess i have to wait until next season.

baseball - baseball has started, but i generally don't start paying attention to baseball until mid-june. my pick for al central division winner will come soon. (i've been trying to decide since spring training.)

football - the draft is pretty much my favorite part of professional football. for a long time, i kept hearing the vikings were going to take brady quinn, but now i'm hearing it will be adrian peterson. i think quinn would be better, as chester taylor performed admirably last season, and i don't think tavaris jackson will ever really amount to anything.

and last but not least...

SOCCER - there is about six weeks left in the european club season. my beloved manchester united has progressed to the semi-finals of the champions league (against AC Milan), the finals of the FA Cup (against chelsea), and they maintain a 3 point (effectively four, thanks to goal differential) over chelsea in the premier league. in 1999, manchester united won all three of these competitions, a feat that had not been done before, nor has it been equaled since. that season was enough to get the teams manager, sir alex ferguson knighted by the queen, to help some of you non-fans understand the gravity of what was done, and what could happen by the end of may. the highlight of my year thus far? watching united thrash as roma 7-1 a few weeks back.

what about my personal affairs, you ask? well, i can't really get into details, just because i don't know what is "public" knowledge (and by public i mean what does one person know) is, but it should suffice to say that i am feeling very conflicted. there are two distinct possibilities as to what may happen at this juncture, but i'm beginning to have a sinking feeling that neither will.
