Two updates within 7 days? Really?
Well, yesterday at work, my manager came over to my desk and wanted to have a chat with me. As we're heading to a conference room, I'm going over everything in my head trying to think of something I've possibly done wrong.
So we sit down in the room and he begins to tell me how due to the economy right now, that they cannot offer me a salary position in this particular group. Now I already knew it was going to be a long shot to find an opening in this particular group. He then tells me that they do have an internship req approved for another year.
To make a long story short, they offered me the intern position for another full year from August, securing a job for me until August 2009. Well all is well and good right? Not quite. In order to keep the internship position, I have to be enrolled in grad school. He stated that they are very lenient on the amount of classes I would be required to take and could most likely get away with taking one class while still working.
Now, I wasn't exactly planning on grad school right away (if at all). This is all kind of sudden for me and I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do yet. Honestly, I'd love to work here another year as an intern and have the opportunity to learn much more. Not saying that I couldn't pull off a salary position with more responsibility, I just think that it'd be a smarter choice to build up my knowledge base a bit more before jumping head in. Not to mention my co-workers are all really awesome people.
The only part I was really looking forward to, would be the pay jump that comes with a salary position. As my loans are quickly approaching, having that extra 15-20k a year would help drastically. He did say however that pay for grad students does take a jump (up to $23 an hour I think).
So it looks like I have a decision to make. I know what I want to do, I just don't know how I feel about grad school right now. The idea of more loans and possible debt seems like such a burden right now. Although I think paying for part time grad school would be well within my range, but where would I go? WPI?
Then again, I could always pursue other salary openings within HP..
