So its now official, I am a hardware intern for HP. I received an email from Human Resources regarding all of the paperwork I needed to fill out ahead of time. Those interested in reading the acceptance letter, check it here:

Dear Matthew,

We are very pleased that you are interested in joining the talented team of people at Hewlett-Packard. This letter constitutes our conditional offer of employment for the position of Intern - Hardware Intern in the Marlboro, MA office with a rate of $21.76 per hour. You will be paid for actual hours worked. As a result, your actual pay may vary slightly based on the number of hours worked in a given pay period. Our pay periods are semi-monthly. You will be working for the Enterprise Servers & Storage (ESS) Department in the Technology Solutions Group (TSG) Organization.

As this is a part-time position, your employment is subject to our part-time employment policy as it may be changed from time to time. Currently, our policy states that part-time status is contingent upon the workload requirements of your department.

During your work assignment with us, you will be eligible to receive holiday pay and health and welfare coverage (i.e. medical, dental). No other benefits will apply. If converting into a regular full-time position from the Internship program, you will receive service-time credit toward benefit eligibility.

In the past, HP has had company-mandated closures whereby all employees are required to take time off. Should HP have company-mandated closures in the future, you will need to seek your manager's assistance to make the appropriate arrangements for time-off during the company-mandated closure.

etc etc etc..

So today I spent some time filling out the remainder of my paperwork. I also took a trip to the Social Security office (right next door to my job) to fill out forms for a new Social Security card, as I lost mine quite awhile ago. The process was pretty painless, as I had the form already filled out when I walked in the door. I got a receipt which is what I needed to send off to HP and should be receiving my new card within two weeks or so.

I faxed the forms out a few minutes ago and Im just waiting to hear back that they've received them. At this point, I guess I'll be waiting a bit longer until Im required to fill out my I-9 form. From that point, I think its just a matter of getting my ID issued before I actually start. I put in my two weeks here at my JWU job. My boss was really cool about it and totally understood what an awesome opportunity this is for me. I'll be sitting down with her next week to generate an outline of my tasks for my replacement, whoever that may be.

I also have a meeting with the internship coordinator at 3pm today. Usually your supposed to submit paperwork six months in advance in order to be placed in an internship for a semester, but it seems she's going to make an exception for me. Basically, I'll be taking no classes at all for the entire winter term. I'll be full-time at HP, 40 hours a work and getting 13.5 credits towards school. So once the winter term is over, I'll have only two classes left to take for the spring, which will still leave me a lot of time to get some hours in at HP.
