Since I finally finished Lady Friday the other night I thought it was time to post some of my Keys to the Kingdom arts as well. These are all sketches to get a hold of the characters, though Arthur came to me pretty easily. Though that's probably because he's on the cover of all the books. XD
Sketches of Arthur. This was mostly after reading Mister Monday, where he's still sorta scrawny and figuring things out. Notice, aside from the fact he's not smiling in any of the sketches, that in the bottom one has him running in that long shirt from Monday's sauna. I thought that was amusing for some reason.
Yay look a smile! Also a "Jeez I hate this place" face and a "I have to do what?" face. Also the little scene in the middle was fun to draw. It's from Drowned Wednesday when Arthur is given a copy of a book going about the House that supposedly recounts the tales of Lord Arthur. One of the illustrations portrays Arthur as a dashing adult adventurer with the freaky frog/bear Will at his side, and in the background you can sorta see Suzy the Amazon about to slay a Nithling. I laughed.
I find it strangely ironic that I almost never feel compelled to draw scenes from books, but for some reason I did a few sketchy scenes from the first three books (so far). The top sketch here is an example (albeit an extremely simple one) where Arthur is ascending from the Pit in Grim Tuesday and Suzy has fallen behind. Then he sees two Suzys calling at him from below, one of which is of course a Nithling.
The bottom left sketch is from Mister Monday when Arthur had to change clothes before going into the town. For some reason I thought his cap was cute. The bottom right is a general sketch where he's consulting the Atlas.
I have more sketches but I'll save those for later. Better to stockpile them and show them bit by bits. Thanks for looking!
