So I had my list of things I wanted to accomplish this weekend. I got many, although not all, of them done.
The big kicker was the Mead. 3x 5-Gallon jugs, which yield 24 wine (750ml) bottles each, is 72 bottles of mead. With the assistance of
midnightesper and
dragontologist, it was a fairly painless process to bottle them all quickly and efficiently, and only a minor mess was made when the siphon hose slipped momentarily and a bit of mead got on the floor. Labels are on order, along with kits for the next few batches to make.
Other than the alcohol, I did a lot of other things. The other big feel-good was cleaning up the yard. Most of my back yard is a hill, covered in woods, that is pretty much impassable / unusable. Over the past few years, it seems, trash of various sorts has built up, been dumped, or blown into that area, and it was becoming an eyesore. I would look out at my yard from my bathroom every morning as I was showering, and instead of seeing beautiful trees and landscape, I'd see trash. It wasn't literally a landscape of crap, but when there's a bright orange plastic thingie in the middle of your still-wintery yard, it kind of draws attention to itself...
The prize find, though, was a completely full garbage bag that looks like it had missed the can (or fallen out) and buried itself under some leaves. It must have been at least 2 years old, since we moved in a year and a half ago, now. All in all, I filled 1 and a half industrial trash cans with junk I found back there, and there's more I still have not put in the cans, mostly because it's bulk and won't fit. My yard now looks like a yard, and I can take pride in it again, and feel like it's MY home.
The last things I did not get to do were laundry, and picking up exploded LARP gear. Since KR is this weekend coming up, both will be happening before the end of the week.
