I very rarely get around to making
WisCon posts, because the weekends are so non-stop, and I always have so much to say that it gets intimidating to write it all down.
So I'm going to try to post small things frequently.
I had to work on Friday, but after work I met up with Jen's WisCon group at a fancy burger place off the square called DLux. I learned what panels people were on, and we mostly talked about our plans for the weekend. I'm not on any panels this year, same as last year and the year before. It's certainly lower stress that way, but I'm going to try to be on something next year, or maybe volunteer to moderate a panel.
The opening ceremonies were fun to watch. I sat near Alaya Dawn Johnson, and had to restrain myself from fangirling over her novel The Summer Prince.
Then I went to WisCon After Dark: Flirting with Respect, which was quite funny and lively.
This morning I almost skipped the 8:30 panels for an extra hour of sleep, but Jen, Carrie, and Anika (who are staying with Jen and I this weekend, yay!) were going so I went with them. I'm glad I did! I went to the panel Old Heroes - Are They Really Possible? which turned out to be fantastic. Lots of thoughtful discussion about what differentiates young heroes from the old, a really funny comparison of the traditional heroic quest plot to male orgasm, and lots of good book recommendations.
