Of trucks and puxatawney phucks.

Kate and I watched No Country for Old Men. This movie makes me happy for several different reasons, one of which being that the vehicles they use are so completely badass that throughout the movie I am drooling over them. The 70’s era of American full-size pickup trucks are, to me, the most beautiful. Trucks today lack the utilitarianism of these trucks. I mean, holy hell, look at these hotties:

Don’t you just want to take those things through some mud? Go look at a brand new Chevy 1500. Don’t wanna get that dirty, do ya?

This month’s Car and Driver magazine has a review of the big three’s latest pickups and the interiors are as nice if not nicer than any other new car on the road. Even my Tahoe, from 1998, has an interior that is nice enough that I feel bad when I get it dirty. I would be afraid to get in a new truck with dirty shoes on, for fear of smudging something. The magazine touches on this fact, as well.
Also, a fully optioned out pickup these days cost well over 45K, which is just fucking ridiculous. Bringing back some of that utilitarianism but keeping the modern capabilities would be a huge improvement in my eyes.
A pickup truck is a tool, but I think that fact has been lost on a lot of people. You could argue that I fall into this category as I have the Tahoe for my own enjoyment, not because I have to use its full capabilities all the time, but I have a huge soft spot for the full-size two door SUVs (the Ramcharger, Bronco, Tahoe) because of the proportions.

I plan on using my tax return to pay it off, and that thought of not owing money on a car has me daydreaming about buying something else, like a project bimmer. Sigh.

I’ve been listening to Russian Circles and Saul Williams this week. Two completely different genres, but both very good. If all rap was as good as Williams, I would be much more inclined to give rap a chance. His imagery and poetry makes most other rap so dull in comparison.

As of a week or two ago, I weighed in at 225 . This is the lowest I’ve been in a long, long time. A few winters ago I was 311, getting to 211 will be really gratifying. Getting below 200 will be happening by summer hopefully. I’m considering working out at school after class.

I have some fun facts and figures to share relating to the criminal justice system. That post will be next, I promise.
