Title: Tug-of-War
Rating: PG
Pairing: Kate/Garrett
Summary: One step forward, two steps back.

He leans forward; she leans back. She puts a finger just in front of his nose, a hairsbreadth away from touching him.

“You want to get shocked again?”

Garrett grins wolfishly at her, red eyes gleaming. “Why, for you, my dearest Kate, I would survive the wrath of a thousand lightning storms! Nay, ten thousand!”

Kate can’t help it, her somber façade breaks and she snorts. “You’ve been spending too much time around Edward and Bella.”

“Maybe it’s time to head home, then.”

“But I thought you didn’t have a home.”

“Home is wherever you are, my love.” He’s still grinning.

She rolls her eyes and punches him lightly in the arm, but there’s no sting to it.

“I’m serious, though. You know, now that I think about it, I’ve never been to Alaska.”

“Oh, it’s just horrid. Absolutely awful. You won’t believe the taste of the polar bear-simply disgusting. Oh, and--”

In a flash, she’s off the floor and pressed against the wall. Garrett sighs theatrically. “I know you would never lie to me, Katie, but fear not, I would suffer the horrors of polar bears for you.”

Kate raises an eyebrow at him. “I mean it. Stay away from Edward and Bella. Keep this up, and you don’t get to come with us.”

This time, when he leans in, she doesn’t stop him.
