'tis the season to sign up for fic exchanges

Sep 20, 2012 22:24

So, I really like fic exchanges. I just love snooping around someone's journal and working out exactly what they love to read. I love waking up one morning and finding I've got a fic written specially for me.

In fact, I like them so much I'm in the process of signing up for far too many of them!

Just try to write a little every day? It should work out quite fine, really. :) Good luck either way. *smiles*

Thanks! I will need some good luck ;) My current average is about 50 words a day, so if you do the maths... But I'm determined to do better than that!

I'm looking forward to signing up for the Lewis Secret Santa Exchange too! It'll be my first such exchange.

I have no idea what's going on at the Yuletide comm - tried clicking around a bit but not sure what's up - probably because of my lack of fannish experience...

Yay for you doing Lewis Secret Santa too! I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun.

I can never figure out what's going on in Yuletide either… Each year I've sort of observed and tried to work out what people were doing, and now I'm going to dive in at the deep end :)

Re Yuletide: I followed the links you provided below and read the FAQ. I don't have three eligible fandoms to write in - I don't watch all that much TV, and the things I do watch tend to be popular. Ah well!

I'm really looking forward to the Lewis challenge! And that'll probably be more than enough writing for *me*, because I write like a snail, which is like 0 words per day, haha.

Good luck with all the writing, I can't wait to see what you come up with!

I am watching the acd_holmesfest solely because you are involved... although I'm sure there will also be other awesome fics. Yay!

What's not to love in fic exchanges? ♥

Oh, I was thinking about participating in Yuletide, too! But sadly I have almost no clue as to how it works, apart from only minor fandoms being involved... Could you fill me in / direct me to some explanatory post? Or does it just work like any other fic exchange, too? (But I remember pondering over signing up last year and in the end being too confused by the rules to do so...)

Also, where do you find all these awesome fic exchanges? Maybe I should look around lj more, too, to find some new ones. :-)

And you get to meet lovely people doing fic exchanges too :)

So, any time I'm reading a fic and I notice that in the header it says "this was written for X exchange" I make a note of it and wait until the exchange comes round again the next year ;) Yeah, as you can see, I like exchanges a lot!

Well, it did take me a while to realise that there isn't only the yuletide comm, but also the yuletide-admin comm, where a lot of the explanations are. And the yuletide website, which has the FAQ that were what helped me eventually figure out how it worked!

Actually, I think a lot of the complicated stuff on the yuletide comm is just people working out complicated strategies to maximise the number of fandoms and characters they can nominate and that sort of thing. I intend to just ignore all that, ignore all the pimping of fandoms and nominating and everything, and then wait until the final list of rare fandoms you can choose from goes up (on the 15th of October, I think.) Then I'll go through it and find a few fandoms I like. And if there's a fandom I would have liked ( ... )

Oh, thanks for the explanations of yuletide! It does sound less complicated this way. :-) (And I didn't know about the yuletide-admin-comm - so that tip was pretty useful!) I've skimmed through the comms for some time today and I think I'm ready to go! :-D ( ... )

On the subject of finding fic exchanges, I just came across this post with a list of lots that are happening this year. You might find something that interests you!

The fandoms I thinking of signing up for are mostly fandoms that have appeared on and off in yuletide over the past few years, so I think I have a good chance of someone else wanting them this time too. Blake's 7, All Creatures Great and Small, the Chrestomanci books, Island at War...

I wasn't planning to make any nominations, I was just planning to hope that other people would nominate them and I'd just have to sign up. But now I realise that you can only nominate 3 (or 4?) fandoms but sign up for 6. So it's a good idea to nominate what you want, in case someone else wanted it too, but it was 5th or 6th on their list. I just going to go nominate what I'd like, without worrying about strategies or what other people have nominated or anything and then... well, we'll see!

Yay, Vetinari drabble! :D
