Can words truly describe how much I love BSG? It's just great television-- always great television and sometimes, it's truly awesome television. I almost never get to watch it live, but it always gives me such a kick, and I absolutely loved 2.18 "Downloaded".
The placement of this episode was great, because I was very upset about Billy's death, followed by the behavior of Duala and the whole Pegasus incident. I was feeling more than a little lukewarm, when they finally returned to storylines that I could get into. That's the great thing about this show-- if you're not into, say, whatever the hell is going on with Apollo, Starbuck and Duala, or Guias and his myriad issues, all you have to do is wait. BSG has an enormous tapestry of stories going, which is part of what makes it so satisfying. And anything with Boomer makes me happy, because I would have her babies any time. ^_~/X_x;;
"Downloaded" was just the sort of episode I was waiting for-- something to show what was going on within the Cylon war machine. Miracle of miracles, the writers actually got me to like Caprica!Six. And here I thought I'd never like her, no matter what copy I was faced with. In truth, I had always thought that maybe all copies got the memories when one of their sibling units died, but the idea of Sharon just waking up in the belly of the beast is even more delicious. Wow-- if I'd been her, I would never have stopped screaming.
A friendship between Sharon and CapricaSix was one of the last things I would have imagined, but I am all on board for it now. They compliment each other-- they need each other, I think. They're square pegs in a society of round ones, and it shows. The idea of 'boxing' and their expectation to conform was very Orwellian, and well-done. The idea of having an individual status amongst one's copies reminds me of Ayn Rand's Fountainhead, and I think CapricaSix is absolutely right about why Number Three was so hell-bent on getting rid of them. I also like that Sharon and CapricaSix didn't immediately trust each other, and that Six was playing her usual games for a while. That made it seem more real to me.
There's also the little mystery of CapricaSix's visions of Guias. I wonder if the radiation from the bomb did something, or if they're both just really unbalanced. The latter explanation seems way too simple.
Then there was um... Caprica!Sharon... wait, that's confusing.. Helo's Sharon, and her little Hera. Rosalind's actions really pissed me off, even if they were totally understandable. I just wonder, though, if Billy's absence isn't allowing Rosalind to loose contact with her humanity. Helo and Sharon and their parental moments were just way too cute, but I loved them anyway. Especially Helo's playful comment about the Cylon God... wow. That guy is pretty unflappable. Then, of course, there was Tyrol standing next to Helo when he released the ashes... those two are almost brotherly now. It's weird, but it feels so completely right.
Speaking of Tyrol, how awesome was it that Boomer still had a picture of him. I don't know what CapricaSix and Boomer plan to do, but I almost hope it's not over for Tyrol/Sharon. Just my little fangirl heart, I guess.
Earlier in the season, I said that Guias' love for Six might well destroy either the Cylons, or the human race. The same is true of CapricaSix and her feelings for Guias. I can't wait until the writers explain this latest little tangle.
Also, all those Sharons walking around on Caprica? *glassy eyed* All... those.. Sharons...
*ahem*
So, yes, to summarize the above babbling in fan-girl-ese: "SQUEE I LOVED IT MORE!!! (more inappropriate exclamation points)"
