BSG 2.11: "Sex, Lies, and Pyramid Ball"
This episode started out a little slowly (at least for me), but I soon found myself very much into things, remembering all the reasons I love this series. Because, seriously? It's bizarre and human, all at the same time.
I loathe Admiral Kane. I know we're supposed to, but I hate her with an even more fiery passion because there are few things that anger me more than military leaders who sacrifice civilians rather than protecting them. Protecting the population at large is the most important function of the military-- as soon as they cease to think of the greater good, they loose legitimacy and become instruments of despotism. Admiral Kane herself is a despot and, though I was surprised it was Rosalin who suggested it, it is entirely reasonable to count her a danger to the fleet. She is-- she'll sacrifice the future of humanity for her "war". When she made that comment about being at war, I thought back to the mini-series, when Rosalin told Adama that the war was over, and that the Colonies had lost.
Speaking of the President and Adama, they were certainly having some odd moments today. Almost unbelievably cute, but still odd. But I love it when they show their more human sides. In the midst of plotting Kane's assassination, there's Rosalin in a big, fluffy robe and propped up with pillows (Billy's doing, I imagine ^_^). And there's Adama, fetching her water and holding her hand. They're not friends in the traditional sense, but I think they have each earned a deep respect from one another. I like that. I like Rosalin, to be honest, and I don't want her to die.
Another pair that bonded cutely during this ep consisted of Helo and Tyrol. I personally think Tyrol's in denial about how much he still loves Sharon (*fights off the bunnies*), but I think Helo loves her just as much. It was good to see him express an understanding that he's in love with a Cylon, and that his baby is going to be... weird. Yeah. Also, did you see how Helo was leaning on things, but Tyrol was sprawled on the bunk? Nice physical contrast there.
And C!Boomer was worried about both of them! *happiness* I'm sorry, but Boomer is by far my favorite character. She's just awesome and flawed in so many interesting ways. I was astonished that Adama apologized to her (not that he shouldn't have, but still, this *is* Adama, here)-- I think it's very hard for the Galactica crew not to look at Sharon and automatically see her as one of their own, even after everything that's happened.
Guias is also surprising me this season. He's still nuttier than a three-layer fruitcake, but I think-- in his own weird, arrogant and self-centered way-- he really does love Six. Seeing her battered copy seems to have brought this home to him in ways he wouldn't have realized any other way. And, when Battered!Six asked him to help her die? You could have knocked me over with a feather. Perhaps the most frightening thing about the cyclons is not their otherness, but their ability to seem so human when other real humans (like Kane and Ty) seem to lack it so.
Other thoughts:
+The Resurrection Ship is creepy as hell.
+Starbuck ran that recon mission all by her lonesome! That girl has brass knackers.
+I'm not sure Kane's XO is as loyal as she thinks he is.
+Btw, is drunkenness required to be second in command, or something? X_x;;
+Starbuck said she'd do anything for Adama! She's such a 'daddy's girl'. ^_~
+The biggest danger to the Cylon fleet may be the fact that Guias loves Six. Wow.
The first week of classes was exhausting, but I think I'm still in one piece. Whee.
