Firefly 1.08 & 1.09-- "You paid money for this? On purpose?"

My new Firefly dvds are so shiny! With the pretty menu, and the episodes all right there for me to watch, and the missing scenes... Big <3 for FireflyI'm trying to pace myself (and my brother, who would have watched the whole series in one night, if I'd let him) so I've only seen three more so far. I have absolutely no understanding as to why the ( Read more... )

I love Jaynestown! I love his speech and then the "there are no people like that. There's just people like me" and just...he does get humanized a bit. You are right about his morality/ethics. They're just, um, non-standard. He's very much just looking our for himself, he doesn't really understand the idea of being part of a group or team. Doesn't look to help others and doesn't expect others to help him. But he is slowly learning and I love watching that.

And River and Book with the bible and the hair really are truly brilliant.

with the first being Malcolm/The Floor. Snerk.
*giggles*

I love all their scenes where they're eating around the table like a family. Make me miss family dinners.

Who knew Kaylee was such an interstellar strumpet? *giggles* Her scene was AWESOME, and possibly my favorite introduction
See, I really don't like that scene. To me, it feels really out of character. Even after a few years in space when we see her Kaylee is pretty shy around guys. I can't see a Kaylee who is still sheltered a living at home being that...outgoing? I love the rest of her intro, but that just feels really off.

I don't know what it is about Nathan Fillion, but somehow he managed to make Mal look considerably more young and hopeful in the flashbacks.
Which is interesting when you consider that buying that ship was probably not long after the war ended so maybe he should be really worn down and stuff but instead he's more spirited than he is after sailing her a while - the one place he has that's almost home and almost freedom.

*nods* I think one of the things about Mal that confuses Jayne the most is that sometimes, in Jayne's world view, there's no profit to what Mal does. He seems to think in terms of exchange-- 'what has so-and-so got that I want?'-- so he's an interesting foil for our jaded hero. ^__^

I didn't see her livng at home as making her sheltered-- she is, after all, young. I guess I see her shyness around guys as an indicator that she likes them. With Bester, it was sort of like a little recreational basketball or something-- I don't think the sex had much importance to it, other than for them both to have fun. I liked seeing the writers do that, and not make Kaylee look 'easy'. She's just an outgoing girl.

Perhaps he was clinging to the possibility that Serenity would be his escape-- that the Alliance couldn't touch him there? It might have taken some time for him to realize that the Alliance wasn't going to let the war be over, really, and that their long arms would reach out to hinder him where ever he went.

*grins* "Ariel" was absolutely awesome.
