Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. :)

Why is it called Black Friday? I'd enver heard of it until they mentioned it on "Chuck" and bizarrely one of the UK websites decided to have a sale for it.

Thank you, I did! Surprisingly stress-free, which was awesome.

Why is it called Black Friday?
I think the name started to stick around the late 70's, early 80's-- it probably came from the retail workers, not the shoppers. It's the biggest shopping day of the year, which makes the day amazingly stressful, and customers even more insane than usual. I work at a credit call center, and our building alone took 172,000 calls between 5am and 11pm. We're just one of four centers for the company, so... yeah. My phone never stopped ringing.

Personally, I've always avoided shopping on Black Friday. *shrugs*

Sounds like boxing day sales are here, though I had no idea until I worked in retail the other year. I couldn't really see the appeal myself, I'd rather rest at home than go shopping the day after Christmas.

You're right-- I hadn't thought of that, since we don't celebrate boxing day here, but it's a good comparison. I feel the same way-- after eating Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, pie, ect, I'd really rather relax and nap. But then, I've never been a really aggressive shopper. I enjoy the occassional outing, but most of the stuff I really want I can find cheaper online.
