Meredith and the OotP Movie

Jul 14, 2007 15:19

Wow-- I dropped out of sight for a bit, there. ^_^;; I took the girls to see the midnight opening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Wednesday, though, so not only did I turn my days and nights around, I was also infected with the need to read large amounts of HP fanfiction. *sheepish* The majority of which, let me assure you, were non-HBP compliant.
(Sirius/Remus forever, BABY! RAWR!)

Speaking of our darling Lupin and his pet ex-con, here are some intensely spoiler-filled ramblings about the movie:
  • Sirius! At Number 12! Dressed all dandy-like in his three piece black-and-crimson suit! Okay, that's way too many exclamation points, but still. It was intensely awesome, and I'm not even all that big a fan of Sirius on his own.
  • Remus sat next to Sirius like, every time they were in a scene together. It was subtle, but great.
  • I loved Tonks hair, and I loved her jumping down Alistor's throat for calling her 'Nymphadora'. Too bad about HBP really. Tonks/Moody was meant to be. (And, for the record, all Amber's fault.)
  • Number 12 was perfect, just how I imagined it. One thing you have to give these movies is that they have awesome, awesome scenery.
  • The person who cast Luna needs an award, or something, because she was just perfect. So dreamy and out-there, yet wise at times. Nice job.
  • Dolores Umbridge was the Pink Satan, and that was As It Should Be. I hated her, and so did everyone else in the audience.
  • The Weasley's final prank and escape from Hogwarts was also bloody wonderful, though I imagine their Mum just about lost it when she heard. ^_~
  • Bellatrix was distressingly hot. And perfectly crazy. She, Dru and River need to have some sort of tea party, or something. Maia could come, but I don't think Diana would stand for it. *giggles*
  • Alan Rickman also did a great, great job as Snape, especially when being interrogated by Umbridge. No one sneers like he does. Snape = <3.

Going to the midnight showing was also unbelievably fun, as well. Sam had to work, but he said he didn't mind if the girls and I went ahead without him. We had to get there an hour early because the first two shows were sold out (the theater had to open a third show! X_x), so I made the girls wait until just before the show to buy our food. I saw plenty of kids decimate their Mountain Dews before the previews even rolled. I also saw a bunch of kids I knew from subbing at the elementary school, many of whom came up and said 'hi' to me. I'm not sure what was scarier for them-- seeing a 'teacher' outside of school, or seeing a 'teacher' outside of school to see Harry Potter. It was hard for the girls to wait, and it was hard for me to wait, too. But everyone in the audience was friendly, and there were whole rows having animated discussions about HP, which was fun. Once the movie started and the title sequence ran, everyone applauded. The audience also broke into spontaneous applause four times throughout the film-- when the Weasley brothers escaped, when Snape insulted Umbridge, when Hagrid's brother was tossing Umbridge around, and then at the end. We booed Umbridge, hissed at Dudley, and giggled at Snape. All in all, a lot of rowdy and rambunctious fun. The girls were elated but tired, so we waited a half-an-hour for Sam to get off his shift, at which point he picked us up and took us home. Apparently, if not for swim lessons, the girls would be keeping his hours now.

I'm really glad I had so much fun at the fifth movie, because I'm not even sure I want to go *see* HBP, and who knows what the Deathly Hallows book will bring? But for now, life is good. ^_^
