Because under that mask, Flash really *might* be Lex. ^_~

Okay, so I'm torn.

When I first saw the Superman Returns trailer, I was kind of excited. Even though I really didn't like their choice of actor for our favorite primary-clad hero, the trailer made it look like they were going to go into a lot of backstory (and I am a *sucker* for backstory), and they had Anthony Hopkins as not-evil!Jor-El. As much as I love my Smallville Clex, I do sometimes miss Jor-El not being an overbearing dead bastard. And Anthony Hopkins seems like the perfect, perfect choice-- no one else has really solidified the character for me. I've spent the majority of my fandom relationship with Superman ignoring Lois Lane when she gets annoying (about 67% of the time ^_~), so that I could do. The whole 'returns' thing seemed kind of iffy, but I was cautiously optimistic.

Then I started to hear other things. Like how Lois Lane has a kid or something? That Superman was gone in outerspace? (He better have been fighting General Zod, or something, you know, important.) I also noticed how... absolutely cold the lead actor leaves me. I'm sorry-- Dean Cain is Superman, Tom Welling is Superman. Even though I was a girl when the Christopher Reeves movies came out, he never really stuck in my mind, for some reason. But this Brandon Routh? Sorry, _not_ Superman. Also, Kevin Spacey is playing Lex Luthor. Now, what I've heard is that he's the most energetic guy on the set-- and that's nice. But to me, nobody does Lex Luthor like my beloved Michael Rosenbaum. Heck, when I hear Flash on Justice League, part of me can't help but expect him to yank off the mask and be Lex under there, as part of some twisted and far too complex Lexian scheme to get into Clark's pants. He would, too.

I like to see my Superheroes on the big screen. I'm willing to put up with a great deal of assorted silliness in order to do so. (The first two Batman movies give me hives-- I love Batman Forever, but mostly because Val Kilmer and Chris O'Donnell have so much chemistry they practically start small fires everywhere they go.) I liked Daredevil, even though it was a tad dinky. I like the X-Men movies-- I'm reasonably fond of the Spiderman films. So I'm willing to overlook Hollywood handling my comic book guys (and gals) with varying degrees of ineptitude, even if only to get ten really awesome minutes out of it.

Soo... on the plus side: not-evil!Jor-El, good trailer, Superman on the big screen, Kevin Spacey enjoying his role.
On the down side: Skinny underfed Superman, wacky Lois, iffy plot device, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.
(See, I'm so torn, Kevin is in *both* columns. X_X;;)

Decisions, decisions. Has anyone heard anything (good/bad/bizarre) about this movie? Got some advice for a confused fangirl? I'd love to know. ^_^
