I broke my own heart last night, so I need a distraction. Stolen off of
sometimesalways, who is a great writer btw, you should all check her out.
Total number of fics: 19
Total wordcount (including yuletide and one not-yet-posted story): Roughly 130,000
My favorite story of mine this year: For BTR, it's a tie between
Every Last Little Light In New York City,
We Trudged Along Through The Mud (And We Tried To Call It Home), and
In Fair Verona. Overall, I'd say my favorites are
My Wrecking Ball and
We're Made Out Of Blood And Rust. This is going less off end product and more off of what I had the most fun writing.
My best story: "According to kudos on Ao3, my best story is"
Welcome To The New Age, my first/only Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters fic, with
Is That A Rabbit In Your Pocket Or Are You Happy To See Me? (my first and only Now You See Me fic) being a close second.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Probably
Every Last Little Light In New York City. I have a warning for character death, even though there actually is no character death, because what was supposed to be a huge, long story got cut short by our Big Bang deadline, and consequently, ELLLiNYC stands alone. But I wanted to put the warning in because it will eventually apply to the sequel, when I get around to it. I'm pretty proud of that fic though - it's got way more banter than I'm used to writing, and it was a chance to work with a slightly OOC James Diamond, all the while knowing that he would eventually slip into character. Broadsiding the readers like that is fun.
Most fun story:
We Trudged Along Through The Mud (And We Tried To Call It Home) is a somewhat angsty fic, but it was a good time all around for me to write because I got to experiment with a writing style I wasn't used to.
Most sexy story:
Lips Honey Swollen was sexyish, I guess? I actually wrote not a lot of porn this year, which is weird for me at this point. I have a lot of in progress porn on my harddrive, but none of it is posted, sooo. Erm. Yes.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: It's probably a tie between
Welcome To The New Age, which features incest, and
It Don't Mean A Thing If I Give You My Heart (If You Tear It Apart), which features Mercedes Griffin going down on Lucy Stone in a public club. Neither of those are particularly bad, imho.
Story with single sexiest moment: I'm going to go with
It's So Hard To Breathe, only because I really enjoyed writing the scene where James first sees the leaked pictures of Kendall and Dak and I find jealousy hotter than I should.
Story with single sweetest moment: The end of
This Boy's Life Among The Electrical Lights, probably, or maybe, idk, all of
You Know You Lift Me Up Dancing, where James and Logan learn to ballroom dance.
Most unintentionally *telling* story:
Until The Devil Turns To Dust, although it's purposely telling. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot more of that in 2014.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
How To Tame Your Hockey Player. I don't even particularly like that fic, but it gave me a lot of insight to how I feel about Dak and Logan, and how I would change them if I got the chance for a rewrite.
Biggest disappointment: I don't actually think I'm disappointed in anything I wrote this year. I have a couple of stories that I wish were already posted (My Heart Will Be Blacker Than Your Eyes When I'm Through With You, which is a kames fic in the Finnick/Annie!verse that is literally a paragraph away from being done, Your Heart Is A Bad, Bad Thing, which is a Miles/Bass fic with probably the hottest sex scene I've written all year, but refuses to be over with, a few more chapters of In Fair Verona, two Avengers stories, and a couple of surprises. And of course, I wish I'd finished all of Every Last Little Light, because I wanted it to be a finished product).
Biggest surprise:
You Know You Lift Me Up Dancing was not a fic I expected to write, and I was shocked I managed. There's also a sequel to A Song You'll Regret in the works, as well as a domestic Jagan/Lames/J-Lo fic I'm writing for Chris called Gimme Symphonies that has made considerable progress.
Hardest story to write: I'm having a lot of trouble with
Jacaranda, because I know everyone wants to get to the sex/the plot twist, but I really want the so called "filler" chapters to have substance. Which is difficult, because I want the sex too.
Easiest story to write: Everything in the first question was an utter joy.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: Probably that I love my friends, because the vast majority of the things I wrote this year were prompts. Of the nineteen stories I posted, ten were prompt fills, and the remaning few were chapter updates that were goaded on by friends being like POST THE NEXT ONE.
Some final thoughts: I know I normally post twice as much, and I've been a little disappointed with my inability to write while I'm at school. It's not that I don't want to write, or post the things I already have written, it's just been pretty easy not to with the anipathy towards BTR, which is obviously my main fandom, and then with other fandoms (Avengers, The OC, Revolution, etc) I've been too busy to actually read fic and really get into them. I am trying though, guys. I promise you that.
