True Bloooooood

Yes, yes, I fucking love to talk about TV. But seriously, this season of True Blood? Aces. I've seen a lot of people bitching because it's not following the books, but hi, let's be honest. The books are TERRIBLE. I also know a ton of people stopped watching because last season was a complete and utter failure.

...mostly because it followed certain parts of the books.

But this season? Owned. It's probably one of my favorite things on TV right now, and I am so, so sad that the season finale just happened. And by sad I also mean DELIRIOUSLY HAPPY WHAT WHAT OH MY GOD.

Let's talk about the things I like:

-This season did not focus on Sookie's relationship with anyone but her ancestry. Which is amazeballs? Because up until now we've kind of had a Team Eric vs. Team Bill thing going on, and duh, obviously she's going to get with Eric for realsies eventually. Hello, have you seen Alexander Skaarsgard? He's the human embodiment of perfection. So that this season let Sookie have some time off on her own to develop some further badassery was kind of the best thing.

-Which brings us to Eric, who, aside from being the human embodiment of perfection, needed some serious character development. And got it! We knew he had all those daddy issues, and we knew he would be good for Godric or for Pam or because he wanted something from Sookie and being good was the best way to get it. In this season you sort of definitively see that he does have a good heart, and it doesn't even always have to involve family/Sookie. He goes out of his way to save Bill (and I won't lie, the beyond bromantic relationship between Bill and Eric this season was basically my favorite thing), and kind of is like I AM VIKING, HEAR MY LOYALTY ROAR over and over again and I thought it was brilliant and wonderful and I may try to steal A-Skaars from my bestie, ngl.

-Jason. I always have mixed feelings about Jason, mostly because he's served the purpose throughout all the previous seasons of being that beautiful idiot who fucks a lot of girls. Jason barely had sex this season, I think? He's still a beautiful idiot, emphasis on the idiot, but I've liked seeing all his sadhurt feelings for his parents.

-More character development on Pam, who is an utter hbic.

-The fairy club being done right. I really appreciate Claude and all his sisters, although I wouldn't have minded more in the way of male strippers.

-Jess! Jess has been one of my favorite things about the show since Day One, and I'm really glad they've kept her on as a permanent character. Sure, she makes a lot of silly mistakes, but I think that's because Jessica is really the youngest, most vulnerable character on the show (aside from Arlene's invisble kids), and her mistakes are a direct reflection of the kind of stupid shit teenagers get up to.

-Lafayette! Lafayette is a fabulous bitch, okay.

-THE. AUTHORITY. Okay, I've heard a lot of arguments about the Authority, the main one being that THERE ISN'T ONE IN THE BOOKS OMG. But, to be fair, the series has been warning us that there's a big bad vampire overlord organization since the first season. I think the Authority is fantastic. I'd always loved the whole Brotherhood of the Sun or whatever it was called storyline because it was a reflection of a very real American crisis, and I think the Authority is the same kind of thing. Maybe I just love it because I spent a great many semesters of my life studying terrorist organizations and corrupt governments and learning about fanaticism, religious or otherwise, and I find that kind of thing dreadfully interesting, idek. The Authority= best storyline next to fangbanger serial killer. Anyone who disagrees can bite me.

-Other highlights: Terry. Half naked Alcide. STEVE NEWLIN, A GAY AMERICAN VAMPIRE ...Did I mention Half naked Alcide?
