I'm considerably cheered. I ended up watching the whole movie, because apparently I don't have a healthy amount of respect for my own sleep cycle (which, okay, kinda already knew that one). Work tomorrow, gah.
Anyway, I watched Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and I LOVED it. It's the first Bollywood flick I've seen since Tashan that I really enjoyed, and if we're being frank, I only liked Tashan to a certain degree. So technically it's the first thing I've really, really liked since I saw Bachna Ae Haseeno- or even Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.
The surprising part about it? Katrina Kaif. I'm just NOT that big a Katrina Kaif fan, and I don't know why. The only Bollywood actress I beyond love is Preity Zinta. I like Bipasha Basu (no idea why. The whole slutty looking bitchy looking thing must do it for me). I can like/tolerate Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone- only because they're in movies I like. I'm not huge on Aishwarya Rai, and I absolutely hate Rani Mukherjee (and Esha, and Karisma Kapoor, and a ton of others, but Rani's really at the top of the list). Katrina Kaif was always about level with Kareena; maybe a little below (the funny part about that being I've been told I look like Katrina Kaif by a LOT of my brown friends. Which, okay, compliment. She's hot.)
But this movie is the first one that I LOVED her in. It was also the first one I've really seen her able to demonstrate acting outside of demure potential indian bride and sexy secretary/whatever, so there is that. She was so silly, and I think she's cuter with Ranbir Kapoor than she is with Akshaye Kumar. Then again, Akshaye only started to grow on me after I saw Bhool Bhulaiyaa on the plane home from Delhi last summer.
It's weird, because I love (read: have the hots for) so many male actors; Saif Ali Khan, Aamir Khan, Imran Khan (incest sandwich with him and Aamir? No?), Shahid Kapoor, etc, etc, etc.
Anyway, I dunno if I've seen any other movies with Ranbir- must check- and okay, weird, IMDB doesn't list all his movies but oh hey, Blue's out? I wanted to see that...Ahem, that's a Katrina movie...Let's see. He's in...oh hey, I didn't know he was the guy in Bachna Ae Haseeno. Well, I loved him in that too. Hmm. Gotta rewatch that now that I own a copy. He's in Saawariya? I have a copy of that from India that I have yet to watch. I bought like eighty movies when I was there (literally, around forty or fifty. I counted- and they were so damn cheap) and I still haven't watched like, half. Hmmm...and Luck By Chance, I have a copy of that on my computer, but I heard it's boring so I haven't watched it...and Wake Up Sid, that I actually want to see, though I heard it's also not good.
Ahem. The point here was that I was alternating between thoughts of- wow, he's really hot and wow, he's really gay. And to er- elaborate on that, I know Indian guys have a tendency to act really homosexual- I've dated two, and I have tons of friends, and well, I've been to India. So I know. But he was flat out gay. No lie.
And hot.
In summary, the movie is adorable, the item numbers are much better than Love Aaj Kal (sorry, Saif), and everyone should watch it.
But not pirated, because my copy had crap subs and the lens went out every once in a while.
i'm told i look like katrina kaif,
bollywood,
ranbir kapoor may be gay
