"I could be king," John murmered to himself, words buried under the high strains of Johnathon Taylor Thomas singing as Simba in the Disney movie that someone had smuggled aboard in their luggage.
It wasn't fair. He had to leave his DVDs behind, but this, this person brought bloody Disney movies that he had to sit through over and over, listening to McKay commentary the entire movie to Teyla and Ronon.
"You are so far away from being king, Sheppard, it's not even funny," McKay retorted, instantly launching back to his commentary.

"I could be king," John said to himself, again, sitting on a sofa, stuck between McKay and Ronon, holding the bowl of popcorn as the two fought over handfuls of it in his lap.
"I'm sure you have the looks," McKay replied, "But I really don't think you could sing or dance like that guy."
'I could if I wanted to,' John thought to himself as his attention was brought back to The King and I.
__
"I could be king," John whispered, the magic of the screen made him hushed in his wishes, as he watched young Arthur pull the mighty sword from the stone.
McKay had no such respect for the movie.
"Please. I've seen you with Ronon's knives and you can't even handle those properly."
Sheppard didn't mention the fencing lessons he took when he was an impressionable teen.
__
"I could be king," John said aloud, watching McKay focused on the movie infront of them, popcorn again in his lap squished between his team members.
"Well you're certainly hairy enough for it," McKay retorted, the noise of King Kong drowning out anything else he may have said.

It went on like that, movies about kings, titles with the word king, and Sheppard replied to them all "I could be king".
But when the theme suddenly changed from 'king' to 'nature', he found himself saying 'I could be king" to every movie he and his team watched together.
One night, when the theme had changed again, and he'd mentioned "I could be king", Teyla turned to him, asking Rodney to pause the movie.
"John, you could be king, yes, but where would that leave everyone else you know and love?"
Ronon nodded, "You don't need to be a king to be part of our team."
John turned to Rodney, who had reddened at the sudden focus on him to reply aswell, "Well, yeah, what would Team Sheppard be if it wasn't for you, right?"
John sat there, silent as he let his teams words sink in.
"I never liked the Monarchy anyway."
