PLACES AND BUILDINGS
India 【天竺 Tenjiku】
☆ The Western-most land in Shangri-la. The place the Sanzo Ikkou are aiming for, for now. Several hundred years ago it was a beautiful land with the most prosperous civilization in all of Shangri-la, but when Gyuumaoh took over and turned it into a warfront, all that was sealed away and at the same time it became a place no human could set foot into.
Houtou Castle 【吠登城 Houtoujyou】
☆ The Gyuumaoh family’s castle, built in India. Perhaps as an effect of the Minus Wave, it towers over the ruined land on the westernmost tip of India. From the outside it appears to have only three stories or so, but there are fairly deep basements, and the inside is high-tech and sophisticated, so of course it is outfitted with elevators as well.
☆ I believe that Professor Nii is feeding the crows that always fly above the castle. The damage due to crap must be huge.
PEOPLE
Gyuumaoh 【牛魔王】(Sai.1- )
☆ The youkai king buried 500 years ago in Houtou Castle, India, by Prince Nataku. It is said he refused to live with humans and rampaged as he pleased. His name is brought up as the cause of the incident in Shangri-la, but in actuality Gyuumaoh is surrounded by countless machines in order to be revived, and knows nothing.
☆ Kougaiji and Lirin’s father. The giant form seen now is his normal one; usually he wears a youkai power limiter and makes his body smaller. I plan to draw the complex relations between Kougaiji’s adored mother Rasetsunyo and Gyuumaoh, and Gyokumen Koushu in the future. At this point, it’s unknown whether or not he’ll be very popular with the ladies.
Rasetsunyo 【羅刹女】(Sai.1- )
☆ Kougaiji’s mother. She was sealed in a pillar in Houtou Castle’s hall by Gyokumen Koushu. Her living (?) form has yet to appear in the books, but let me just say that she did possess the maternal feelings that Kougaiji wholeheartedly adores, and that in the distant past, she was intimate with Gyokumen Koushu.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
Mother Complex【マザコン Mazakon】(Sai.3)
☆ Term mainly used for Kougaiji, but Kougaiji also has a sister complex.
Flying Dragon【飛竜 Hiryuu】(Sai.3)
☆ Creature made by the combination of science and youkai magic, and with them Kougaiji and the others can use the sky paths, and quickly show up before the Sanzo Ikkou. However, it seems that Jienyi travels between the East and West using a different method.
Summoning Magic【召喚魔 Shoukanma】(Sai.3- )
☆ In Saiyuki, it’s the art of opening a gate to another dimension, and summoning a creature from there to a living body. It’s mainly Kougaiji who uses it, and because it takes time and spiritual concentration to use, it isn’t often abused.
Engokuki【炎獄鬼】(Sai.3- )
☆ One of the summoned beasts Kougaiji uses. However, we still haven’t seen him summon other things.
Earring【ピアス Piasu】(Sai.6)
☆ Kougaiji’s earrings match his mother, Rasetsunyo’s. They were destroyed by Gyokumen Koushu.
Chess【チェス Chesu】(Sai.R.2- )
☆ A two-person, western board game with a history longer than that of shogi. Nii Jienyi likens Kougaiji to a knight. It’s a small piece that cannot checkmate the opposing king by itself, and its value is relative to the situation. Everyone plays table top games, but they’re all different: Nii Jienyi and Instructor Wang play chess; the Sanzo Ikkou play mahjong; Kanzeon and Jiroushin play shogi. By the way, drawing the games is all kinds of difficult.
