I haven't done one of these in a while. Will it actually stay weekly this time around? I'm not sure, but I'll try.
It's the last day of September, and I was determined to come home and actually post something HAPPY in order to counteract the excess of negative energy around my life and everyone in it lately. But then the rain and the cold and the random setting-off of fire alarms in the McMed Building happened, leaving me wet and freezing outside while I waited to hear from my professor on what we were going to do about class (it got cancelled, but that didn't change my 30 minutes of standing around about to fall asleep on my feet...).
But still. Tomorrow is October. It's a new month. And I'd hate to start it all downhearted, so let's see what I can do.
1. Farmer's Market is back at McGill for the fall season, and it's awesome. All these local farmers and artists in one place...! Super exciting :D I'm out there every Wednesday helping out at Organic Campus, selling food, counting cash, and usually coming home with a bag full of rejected vegetables and in some lucky cases, loaves of baked goods. I swear if it wasn't for this organization, I would have starved trying to live on my budget by now.
2. Anime Club is up and running, and we got through both Activities Nights and our first event with relatively few disasters, so that's good. There are some very enthusiastic new members this year (one girl came last week in her cosplay outfit O__O), and I'm really happy with the exec team we've assembled. It's sometimes really, really harrowing to have to run around everywhere taking care of club stuff (especially since our VP Finance is out of commission at the moment due to health and personal issues, so I've been doing his work too) on top of schoolwork, but I won't complain. I signed up for presidency after all; the workload was to be expected, especially since I'm trying crazy hard to reform the club this year. We'll see if the efforts pay off. Oh! And there WILL be a MAID CAFE! There will! We're making it happen as a fund-raising event, and it will be AWESOME :D
3. Arashi is also working crazy hard right now. I can't believe the amount of stuff they're releasing this year! Six singles, one studio album, a concert DVD, and of course, every drama season thus far has counted at least one member of the group (and if rumours are correct, Aiba-chan is slated for a lead role in a drama for winter 2011! YES!). I don't care what the haters say, I still think their music is really good. "Troublemaker" was amazing, "Monster" was flavourful, "To be free" was refreshing, and "Love Rainbow" was energizing. I'm loving this constant saturation of Arashi in my life, but I digress: I'm worried they're over-working the boys, and that Johnny's plan to over-expose his prized cash cows will only backfire on their current popularity :( After "Dear Snow" and "Hatenai Sora" comes out, I really hope they'll get some break for the Christmas season before being thrust back into their overwhelming schedule.
4. Also on the music scene, Valshe's second mini-album was released one week ago, and WOW. The arrangements. The illustrations. HER VOICE. It is like chocolate to my senses. Minato did a fantastic job with the instrumentals and writing the lyrics, Hakuseki has outdone herself with the accompanying booklet for the CD, and Valshe has, if at all possible, gotten better at singing ♥ ♥ ♥ My CD needs to get here soon >__<
5. clear made his debut with "Dearest", also earlier this month; if Valshe is my favorite nico nico/utattemita artist of all time, clear would rank in at least the top five. There's some seriously great vocal work going on here, not to mention his rendition of "Fire Flower" is, and always will be, the best out of anyone else's cover :DD And those duets with Dasoku and nero are just-- *melts*
6. I discovered Desktop Buddies applications earlier this month, thanks to the Durarara!! fandom and now usually always have them running around my desktop while I work. I know people think it's weird, and can't understand how I can possibly work while such cute little chibis of my favourite characters are running around my screen, but they're so very soothing to look at. They calm my nerves, kind of like a cat or a dog, but just...not as warm and fluffy and touchable^^'' I have a bunch of characters for it now, and also the Apricot application (complete with Hatsune Miku and Izaya Orihara characters), some Angel Beats! AIR applications, and the FLELE music player with about 20 extra custom shells installed. If I ever find the time to, I might go hunting for more... >:]
7. Very, very lastly, I have some new art supplies. Not a lot, since I'm essentially broke in the truest sense of the word, but Bristol paper was on sale a while ago, so I got myself a pad of it. I've always wanted to try Copic on Bristol, and now I'll be able to :D The only dilemma is figuring out what to draw...
I'm also including a meme I stole from
hinoai , which I liked because it was quick to do and kind of interesting. If anyone feels like doing it as well, I'd welcome seeing the results on my Friends Page :)
