playing tuba for four days. being locked out of sleeping arrangements twice, sleeping on the 40 degree bus with no blanket, losing movement of my right hand for a few hours. lots of coffee and a newer bigger thermos. the bands i played with: the RMO of course. Dja-Ra-Ra, hatian Rara band. Bread and Puppet Circus band. the Himalayas free jazz ensemble. the Trombone Choir. one song with the Extraordinary Rendition Band. Klezmer jammz. there were flaming trumpets and a flaminger sousaphone. i looked out and saw aaron and dorsey dance to my music not a yard from each other but unbeknownst in the crowd and in life, there in faraway boston.
had a conversation with Extraordinary Rendition as a band as i was passing them, where we exclaimed how highly we thought of each other, how much more we thought of the other than the other did of us, for a long time. similar conversations were had with the dear Detroit Party Band and the Minor Mishap french horn section. there was so much love in the air, driving back no one in the car could keep from laughing for first two hours or so.
and the band was so big, almost 60 people. and the conversations were so deep, about transsexuality, queer/homosexuality, racism, hate, love, adulation, gossip, and life. and i made friends and increased old friendships tenfold. this was my second Honk. oh, it is good to be alive.
