Safety, my ass. More like a health hazard.
The smoke detector went off a little while ago. Sometimes when it gets too hot in here, either from taking a shower or the heater being set too high, it goes off.
So I dash down the hall twirling my towel at it to circulate some cooler air at it, opening my bedroom door wider so more cool air from the AC can get out to the hallway. One other little detail is that we have two smoke detectors- an electric one on the ceiling and a battery operated one on the wall. I assume its the one on the ceiling as usual.
I go back to the kitchen only to have it in back off. Repeat the towel routine several more times. For one reason or another I yank the battery one off the wall. The beeping goes off again.
At some point and for unknown reasons I hold the battery operated one to my ear. Low and behold, the little bastard goes off in my ear, affecting my hearing for a good five minutes.
Needless to say that little bastard will not be reuniting with its battery any time soon.
