Holiday list 2013

Nov 24, 2013 21:25

As always, I am not demanding presents, I don't really expect them, I am just putting this out there in case you feel the need to buy me something and don't know what. Be aware that you are likely getting a very strange homemade woozle in return, so... :P

Of course, what I love most is getting to hang out with people I love. Since it is the season of hot drinks, games, huddling around the fire, snuggling under blankets, making (and eating!) piles of delicious foods, football, fabulous holiday traditions, singing carols, dancing, decorating, and parties, hopefully I'll get to share some of the awesome with YOU!

In general:

I prefer second hand or hand made or..well, supplies for me to make things :) New is VERY not important to me. For media, random copies are also awesome (ooooo, do you have RESEARCH articles?????? ooooooooo)

I love to MAKE (cook, knit, sew, quilt, can, ferment, spin, weave, etc) I really only knit with wool and dpns. I love vintage clothes, 50s rockabilly sundresses are AMAZING! I also adore Star Wars anything. I love to garden, mostly edible things (I have a few flowers, like columbine and roses, but mostly vegis).

Clothes: Everyday, I wear a fairly limited set of things. Of that set, there are some that I could ALWAYS use more of! Bras, polarfleece full-zip front tops (black), wool cardigan sweaters (soft, please), underwear, Carharrts pants (or jeans) and socks (smartwool). My jeans are size 8-10 (32 or 34 inch waist, 34 inch inseam) long, my shirts small or medium, my bras 32C, and my underwear a size small, and low cut. I like scoop or v-neck shirts (I don’t like the tight boy-neck shirts). I would say that 90% of my clothes are black.

I love bluegrass and traditional northern European music. I am obsessed with jewelry (though I never end up wearing bracelets, so rings, earrings, and pendants are best).

Visual themes I like:
Colors: Black, grey, dark red, green, brown. Blue is okay, but not awesome. Though I might sorta like it, I'll never wear anything very bright or very pastel in a mundane setting. In the SCA, in addition to my usual colors, I wear a lot of celery green, bright red, and rust orange/red.
Animals: cats, hedgehogs, butterflies (my device is a green butterfly), salamanders, frogs, turtles, chickadees, owls, jellyfish, squid/ocotpi, dinosaurs, mushrooms, moon, bluebirds
Plants: POPPIES!!! borage, rose, columbine, oak (especially acorns), holly, strawberries, cherries.

Scents: rose, rose, and rose again. I also like vanilla, citrus, lavender, and other florals, but in small doses.
Tastes: BLACK CURRENT!!!! RASPBERRY! PEACH! rose, almond, vanilla, white chocolate is fine, watermelon, licorice, root beer, scotch, ANYTHING smokey or smoked, chantrelle mushrooms, any mushrooms, real lemon and lime. I can't have caffeine or whole nuts (ground nuts are fine).
Textures: (in textiles)soft is good, fuzzy too. I don't mind strait wool and linen though. (in foods) I LOVE GUMMY things. I can't eat anything crunchy, like nuts, gets stuck in my throat.

This is in order of how much I want/need the thing.

-Books on tape!!!!! Tolkien, Terry Pratchet, Harry Potter, etc. Light, funny, fantasy and sci fi are a plus, I listen to them while I am bored sorting data. CD is fine, or MP3, they are going on my computer hard drive and MP3 player.
-Waterproof shell/jacket/windbreaker (size m, black or green please).
-Large stainless steel ladle (larger than 8 oz) This is for canning, so the super-flat ones from the food service industry are not really what I need. I want a deep one, for filling quarts.
-Stick blender (cuisiart one that comes apart is awesome)
-Sandisk sansa clip ($20)
-Wool pants, waist size 34
-New-to-me bluegrass or traditional European music. I like close harmony (usually with female voices) the best.
-seeds for my garden! I'd be very, VERY happy to have seeds for short season tomatoes :)

-(book)The Complete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook: Every Recipe from the Hit TV Show with Product Ratings and a Look Behind the Scenes
-Propane burner (the big ones, usually sold as a turkey deep fryer or a crab pot boiler)

-A game called Sequence (I am really enthused about this! Any other cool game would be awesome, Galaxy Truckers and Lost Cities sound interesting. This site has lots of suggestions http://defectiveyeti.com/gggs/ (I have carcassone, settlers, morels, time's up, and apples to apples))

-DELICIOUS FOODS!!! And boozes
I am very interested in tasting a variety of types of vanilla (Madagascar, Tahiti, etc) and flavored salt. I’m also excited about smoked paprika, or any other interesting spices. I am also highly entertained by new local alcohol, there are a lot of interesting breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Trying new flavors always makes me happy. I’m a huge fan of odd kinds of cheese as well.

-I am currently obsessed with pleated skirts (waist size 34 inches, about a size 16, just past knee length), and petticoats.
-Supplies: yarn to knit, spectacularly odd quilting fabric (my current favorites are one with tiny carrots on it, and one with dinosaurs formed out of constellations). Dye, minerals for paint or makeup, brewing ingredients.
-Electronic or DVD copies of movies I only have on VHS, specifically: Tank Girl, Swept from the Sea, Ashik Kerib, Wallace and Gromit (all), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (movie), Amelie, Mars Attacks.

-Book light that runs on easy to find batteries (like, triple A)
-(book) NEW edition of Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades!
-Bookshelf (less than 11 inches deep, less than 7 feet tall, less than 4 feet wide)
-Slicing blade for the vintage cuisinart
-Sleeping bag with both cotton batting AND cover
-Medium size backpack, with a waist strap. Mine is wonderful, but now kinda destroyed by 3 seasons of field work, sigh (mine is an Osprey Talon, M/L. I love that thing, sigh)
-Soft, fine wool (angora or cashmere or lambswool or whatever are awesome) cardigans. Especially in fair isle patterns.
-I adore long scarves. They are often sold as a “pashmina” or fine shawl. I prefer ones made from natural fibers: cotton, wool (of any kind, but softer is better), and rayon/tencel is okay as a last resort, but I prefer the others. I like black and grey best, but red and green are cool too.
-vintage bandannas
-Rings (Sz 6-8)
-Crescent/hoop earrings

EXPENSIVE THINGS (I don’t NEED any of these, I just covet them):
-Cuisinart food processor
-Kitchen knives (I prefer Wusthof, but any brand that will hold up to heavy use and sharpening would be great)
-I am thinking about an 8 inch tablet that runs full Microsoft Office, but it looks like they will come out with much better ones in a few months, so I should wait :)
-Sodastream (I LOVE bubbly water!)

SCA
-Quern
-shoes :( oh, HOW I covet new shoes! Little viking boots!!!!
-Hollow bone, sturdy. Really, a Viking Age lucet (hollow mammal bone with two points), but I can cut the points myself. I just don't want to clean out the bone. Should be at least 3 inches long (4 would be better), round (whole, not halved), and clean on the inside. Yep, I'm lazy (and busy, and I hate cleaning out bone, it is gross).
-mirror from Elfa
-marver
-little wooden spoon with a loop on the top
-Freon tank cooking pot
-s-hooks (for the fire) mine have run off
-medium size round pin for my little coat. Oooo, or a trefoil!
-Riveted iron cooking pot
